Posted By: ItsOnlyGil
So Dave,

What is the real story here? Do these card price database programs sometimes miss auction sales, or was this your oversight? Or is it something else?

We all want to know. These guys should be winding up getting their system's bugs out soon, I figure.

Posted By: Bobby
Leon,

I hope that it is alright and justifiable for me to say something here about VintageCardPrices.

First of all we do not track BIN's or Best Offers..that is why you will not find any of those price results in our system. We verify every auction once the auction has been approved it goes into our system queue. From here it checks ever members "Want List" and if the card meets or is better then what people are looking for send that member an email with a link to that particular auction so you can bid on it. We are eBay developers and Affiliates which means that our computer directly communicates with eBay's every 15 minutes to check every auction in our queue to see if it has ended. Once an auction has ended it posts to our website witin 15 minutes automatically. As well it notifies every member who has that card by the same grader and grade that one of his cards just sold in auction with a link so they know exactly which cards are selling. On the price grid for every card there are links to the actual auction itself so you can verify and compare the card that has sold to a current card in auction to see if was a strong or week grade. We have price information on over 400 sets of cards in the system and in the porcess of a major system upgrade that will increase our coverage to include 60's, 70's & 80's baseball. Along with Football, Basketball, Hockey and Boxing as seperate sections of the website which will be completed before the end of this week. Not only do we cover ebay but have results from 20 other major auction houses as well. I will be more then glad to help out anybody who has any questions and our sytem is virtually error free..but when there is one it is easily corrected.

Regards,

Bobby

Posted By: Dave
not sure of the "gasps"......i was asked a question and posted what is "shown" for the answer. i assume the "horrified gasps" are because of it being a paysite (and a good one bobby dont get me wrong), that i've crossed a line posting the auction results from that ONE card. i have seen numerous folks on here asking about auction results or what this card or that card is worth before...how is it different just posting what that one card is worth? its not different, yes, i posted the search results of a card. it won't happen again. but i also would expect in the future the same "horrified gasps" when somebody (not singling you out gil, i'm more just amazed) asks what in the world thier card is worth. Sharing the information is sharing the information, if you want to gasp at the thought i'm showing what ONE card's auction results have been, then stop thinking its ok to give out what a T207 Art Fletcher in SGC 60 condition is "worth" when prompted.

Posted By: ScottIngold
What did i miss ?

I only asked for some info on a card. It seems to have somehow turned negative. If it is because i don't subscribe to one of the pay site's. Than i apologize to those guy's.... But i certainly hope that someone can still ask for info on this board without having to pay someone for it.

Posted By: leon
Ask away....I think it got into a pissing match with the "pay" sites of pricing. We will help when we can. I think the $2300 in a 4 and about $1600-$1800 in a 3 sounds about right in todays market....give or take $100 depending on the bidders and look of the card...Maybe $1300-$1500 for a nice 2....My estimates are only from me following the market like an addict and it's not from anyone's database.....regards

Posted By: BlackSoxFan
Hi guys,
Gil asked a question that i felt was directed at both VCP.com & CardPricer.com. I took some time to respond to that particular question. I thought Gil (hi Gil) was basically saying the post was inapproriate, so after going back and forth (hence the number of edits), I removed the text. I'll be happy to explain our position using our company id if people would like me to clarify. Thanks guys and no big deal either way. Ultimately, I think our product and the amount of data currently available speaks for itself.

And for the record:
Leon -
Not a "pissing match", I didn't even bring up our competitors name and since it appeared directed at both of us, I would expect Robert to respond. I pulled my comments because of Gil.

And ...
I have no problem with anyone who is a subscriber sharing our information on a limited basis. If someone here asks for a price, please feel free to post our information, just be conservative. After all, we do need subscribers to hang around.

Regards,

Black Sox Fan

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

email me

Posted By: Dave
my whole view was that giving the information on the one single card asked about, was nothing more than that. if i were the owner of one of the sites and someone posted info on how a single card is broke down, i'd actually appreciate it. as far as thats concerned the way someone reads that post at that point with the breakdown may actually see the value in subscribing to a service. thats all there was to it, period, the end, the fat lady is waddling in the mud.

Posted By: Gilbert Maines
Sorry guys for making a post like that and then splitting. But you see - the game was on. Beating the Cards is important. And the Mets were one down. And guess what? The game is on again.

But I started something, and I need to explain a bit.

First off Dave: My "gasps" were not attributable to the information which you shared. If anything, I would think that the information represents good advertising. Any "gasps" are attributable to the ease that I found that actual cash could be generated by providing an opportunity for a salesperson to peddle his wares.

I simply asked the right question about company A, and suddenly appeared company B pointing out their invincibility (well not quite ). But it worked. I thought that it might. And the analogy to the banner thread was timely.

As far as Card Pricer vs. Vintage Card Prices, it is my opinion that these opportunities are important to us. Much like the opportunities called PSA, SGC and others. Therefore, it does not appear to me reasonable to expect us to not discuss the pros and cons associated with each opportunity, as each of us views it.

Now I know that we are all friends, but we are talking about whose machine needs what improvement in our eyes, and does the builder want to change anything. This is new ground, and important ground. It is in part an interactive multi-featured dynamic virtual real time price guide (where did that come from + what does it mean?).

Each of us will have our preferences, but if you guys are going to keep the price at $100/yr., it seems like a bargain to me. I just wish that the cards which I am interested in changed hands more frequently in slabs. But if they did, would they be the cards I"m interested in, I wonder. But I digress. What is the point? Anyone remember? Oh, well. I guess it is time for the game. -gil
