Posted By: Cobby33
I know that the T215 Pirate backs were distributed to troops in the Caribbean- also know that there are several Cuban issues. Were there any other Vintage issues produced/distributed in other Caribbean islands, for example D.R., P.R., etc.?

Thanks in advance!

Posted By: Chad
Other than that, Venezuela is the only country I know of with vintage stuff, vintage meaning pre-war. Puerto Rico has the Toleteros and Denia issues from the late 40's and early 50's and there are a few Dominican cards from the early 50's as well. The Dobles Venezuelan set is from 1931 and has guys like Martin Dihigo, Cocaina Garcia and Tetelo Vargas in it, but no American players. There are also Venezuelan cards from the 40's and there are a couple of Nicaraguan cards listed in the SCD. There's always the chance something could be discovered, though. I often daydream about a set of cards from Mexico in the early 40's popping up. Hope this helps.

--Chad

Posted By: Ryan Christoff
Paul,

Here's the Aparicio. This is his first card, issued 3 years before his debut in the Majors in 1956. An auction house recently sold a 1948-49 set that they "accidentally" claimed contained Aparicio's "true rookie card." Of course, it wouldn't have taken much detective work to figure out that he was 14 years old at the time. The Aparicio in that set is, of course, his father who is said to have been every bit the player his HOFer son would later become. He has cards that date as early as 1931.

-Ryan
