If the item is real, I would be surprised if it was distributed inside the newspaper as he describes ... His description is a bit mangled, as describes the item alternately as a premium and as a suppliment. It would have to be one or the other, not both, with a suppliment being distributed inside the newspaper. And nearly all to all large sized suppliments were on paper.

If I were a potential bidder, I would want to know source for the information. If this information came from a Mastro or Lew Lipset catalog, Standard Catalog or reputable web site, that would be a good source.

I guess another auction spoiled <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14> I can almost bet that the auction will go beyond my little budget. Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>Almost every scenario has been played out on this board concerning the rules. There is no rule against outing a current auction. We have had threads about this before. It's not good etiquette and IS against the rules when it's your own auction. I let this one go as there was some good info in it. Unless you are the seller it's usually very "unwise" to out an ongoing auction.....regards

However, I agree that it was not appropriate for the seller to plug his own auction on the main board - this thread could have just as easily been placed in the B/S/T "on ebay" catagory or posted after the auction was completed.

Unfortunately, the last time the card was sold, I missed the closing of the auction by mere minutes. Had I been successful then, it would never have reappeared. Slater's Americana in their Auction #5 (3/15/99) sold the following PET Supplements:<br /> Cobb $373, Johnson $267, Mathewson $220, Plank $168, Marquard $91,<br /> Collins $124, Bender $112, Baker $151, Myers $88, Tesreau $43,<br /> McInnis $59, Doyle $48, Demaree $48, Burns $48, Barry $53<br /><br />To this day these are the only ones that I have seen for sale before the Cobb showed up on ebay. And of course the Baker Leon has on his website.<br /><br /><br />

Posted By: <b>jeff drum</b><p>I stand corrected, I obviously missed that one. I didn't remember the auction I referenced having a Cobb as well but it did. These may be out there but I don't see them very often. Tough to survive in as good a shape as that Cobb looked like it was in.
