Posted By: <b>Joann</b><p>Top ones fake. Printing on the back of real cards is kind of a softer black, almost like an extremely dark teal, not stark plain black. And the print also tends to take up most of the back, not be scrunched into a much smaller area as in the one shown.<br /><br />Joann

Posted By: <b>Joann</b><p>I always think that they look very dark dark bluish green on scans or even in person at casual glance. But under close look, or w/magnifier they are black. But for some reason the black on reprints looks ... blacker than the black on the real ones. I mainly go by the smaller area occupied by the back printing on the reprints.<br /><br />Just my opinion.<br /><br />J

Posted By: <b>davidcycleback</b><p>A moire pattern, not unlike on the Ryan reprint, happens when you scan a card that has a halftone dot pattern. The original Allen & Ginters weren't halftone prints, so only a reprint will have a moire pattern when scanned.<br /><br />Some cards in online auctions are identified as reprints, as the originals couldn't have moire patterns. This includes real photo cards, like the Old Judges, Fatimas, T5, etc, and most 1800s cards. The original T206 portraits can have a bit of a moire in a scan as they used some halftone printing. Genuine modern cards, like Topps and Bowmans, can have moire patterns when scanned.<br /><br />So if you see an eBay auction of an Old Judge or a T200 Fatima with a moire pattern, the card is a reprint.

Posted By: <b>Joe D.</b><p>david is correct about the moire pattern as a sign of a fake (for instance on T200s)<br /><br />I just wanted to point out that the absence of a moire does not prove anything... and should not give a person confidence that an item is authentic.<br /><br />It is very simple to remove a moire pattern from a scan. If a person is crooked enough to sell a reprint as an original, they might also fudge the scan and remove the moire.<br /><br /><br />So... like David said - if you see a T200 with a moire it is fake. If you see one without a moire... it doesn't mean much.

I've seen quite a few N28 Anson's where the bat is on the border or even cut partially off at the border. <br /><br />The dead give away here is the dot pattern on the card front.
