question about SMR prices through PSA

Posted By: <b>Bobby</b><p>I have a member who has 2 -1952 Topps Master sets and he had no idea of the prices he paid so he just entered the current SMR values for his price in his "My Collection" section. And the true selling value was much higher.

I mean, does slabbing a random card from a scarce set automatically up the value even when it's in VG condition. <br /><br />I just know I see a lot of cards on ebay with PSA grading that are sellling in the $25 range...and which barely covers the grading at retail, with shipping.

Posted By: <b>James Gallo</b><p>The prices are SOOO off all around on anything pre 1950s.<br /><br />It seems most of the stuff post mid 1960s doesn't even get SMR unless it's a 9 or better or a HOF.<br /><br />I don't understand how this can be so off. <br /><br />There were a bunch of E-90 commons that sold on ebay last week. these cards were all PSA 1 and PSA 2<br /><br />PSA SMR as a 4 is $70. Posted By: <b>andy becker</b><p>it's very simple....psa puts no effort into their price guide. none. <br />i thought when it first came out that they priced cards low to show an expanding market....but they have not updated anything. <br />the smr is worth about the same as the rest of the retail catalogs that hit my house.....

There are 4 on EBAY now (including a store listing.)<br /><br />As far as getting SMR, one recently closed for $96. A card can close much higher or lower than another example on EBAY, depending on who is looking for the card at a particular time. You will most likely get $80 to $120 for it. It is impossible to tell.
