Posted By: Wesley
I am in the same boat as Steve. When I sell I am usually happy to just get my money back and often I take a loss. Collecting is just a fun hobby for me and not a way to make money.

Posted By: Cobby33
Fun. I also sell (at a loss as well), but that money gets recycled back into the hobby.

Posted By: ScottIngold
Same as Steve M. I start with a goal.....Then change my mind... Than change back. Of course i'm lucky to get my $'s back. But hey it keeps me out of trouble.

Posted By: edacra

Yup, I've always ended up getting less for my cards then I put out. For all the hype around flipping cards, I think that might be the norm, even if a lot of the most vocal folks have figured out the magic formula to profit.

Speaking of formulas, from what I can tell, you have to:
a) get lucky with a steal of a deal
b) spot something nobody else spots, priced super cheap
c) buy in large lots and then have the overhead to make money off it
d) buy cards which are undervalued, and be patient 'till they become popular enough for you to cash in.

Have I forgotten any?

Posted By: Jeff
I start out as a kid strictly for fun.
When I got out of the hobby around when i got married (Funny how that is the reason for alot of people leaving) it was because it was no longer fun.

I got back into it too make some money but because I did miss it.
I make a profit with my web site but it is done mostly because given the choice I would rather be at a card show most of the time.

Also it take so much of my money that I do not have enough to get into trouble.
