Posted By: Steve M.
Bob jumped the gun starting the 1st August "Recent Pick-Ups" thread in July so I thought I would start a new thread that actually is the 1st day of August.

Buck arrived from the U.K. today as a "Re-Patriation". I am understandingly proud and pleased.

Edited to say he now resides in an SGC 30 holder. Looking for better but some spotting, light wrinkling and slight erasures down-graded this beauty.

Posted By: jamie
it's a silver gelatin photograph of the 1908 giants- strange little piece though. it's been glued to a piece of thick paper and has very careful spanish and english writing on the back. the photo itself is pretty thick too

Posted By: George H. Counter
Cool item Jamie.
It does not look like this was the original print but a copy of the original photograph.
The lack of contrast in your image leads me to think this way.
Maybe David Rudd can post his point of view on this.

Posted By: jamie
it looks like it was cut from an album. the photo itself has some pretty strong mirroring- it doesn't look like any silver gelatin photo i have. i agree that it's probably not first generation- the focus and the way it's cropped is a little weird. does anyone have a copy of what the full original photo may have looked like? i couldn't find a thing to match it to

scott- thanks for the translation. i had stupidly assumed it was first row, second, etc..

Posted By: Al C.risafulli
Thanks, Gil. I had the card in VG-EX (still do), but this is one set where I've actually been consistently trying to upgrade. I've gotten a little nutty about these '38s - all sorts of info about them on my website, www.swingbattaswing.com. Feel free to take a look.

Sorry for the hijack. To stay on track, I also bought this card, from a board member, for my HOF set (I only have the thumbnail on the computer I'm using, but it's real):

-Al
