Guy at right has a faint WOOD PHOTOGRAPHEA NEWARK stamp on back. Lesson learned.<br /><br />The gent in the cab at right does look very much like Caruthers in his N162 pose. I know we've focused on ears in the past when trying to match images, and this mans ears are a dead on match. Obviously much more hunting to be done on my part. Does anyone have any facial photographic images of Caruthers?<br /><br />David, I have your book on Judging the Authenticity of Paper Photographers and based on the info in it, the cabinet is early.<br /><br />Gil, the image i posted isn't the best, but the man is definitely not crossed eyed.<br /><br />Thanks for any help.<br />

Any explanation for the neck attire? Is this too consistent with what railroad workers wore? Have any insight or links that you might be able to share.<br /><br />Some people actually come here to try to learn and thankfully I see a lot of people trying to help others do so. I haven't seen any contribution from you whatsoever to this board, so maybe you should just skip the threads where help is asked.<br /><br />As i said originally, I don't think either of the images are baseball related - was just looking for some meaningful dialog on the matter.

Posted By: <b>davidcycleback</b><p>Facial identification of photos takes practice, and can be difficult when na limited number of images exist. When in doubt it's probably not the person. Realize that any high school has a student who resembles someone famous, whether it's a young George Bush or a young Dianna Ross. So if you you look through a mound of photos of unfamous people, a few will somewhat resemble someone famous.<br /><br />If the photo is a news photo or stamp of a celebrity photographer, then it makes it more likely, or even probably, the person is the famous one. If the cabinet is of the right age for the age of the person, and the studio is in his home town, it makes it more likely. <br /><br />I once had to judge if a teenager was someone famous by comparing it to two images of the famous person in his seventies, bald and about 150 pounds heavier. I can't remember what was my verdict, but it likely was "Don't know."
