He played in only 30 games in 1909
and that was it for his 13 year Major Lge. career.

Both of these Ritchey cards have Piedmont 150 backs.

Posted By: T Engle
I remember my dad put this on Ebay a while ago.

It looks somewhat like a faint dove.

Sweet Cap. back

T

Edited because it got me wondering if there is more value of the dove than no dove. I hope this isn't like a rare type and worth way more than what it went for. Can someone shine the light on this for me. Maybe it isn't a dove at all.

<a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8803931619&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1#ebayphotohosting</a" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8803931619&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESO%3AIT&rd=1#ebayphotohosting</a>

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
OK guys, remember that song....who sang it, and what was the year ?

BRIAN W.

At the risk of repeating myself....unless you have your T206 cards (or set) divided
up by Series, it is difficult to appreciate the difference in the Blue coloring between
the cards printed in the 150 Series vs the 350 or 460 Series.

The difference in the Ritchey cards on display in this Thread made me take a better
look at my set, and I noticed the Light or Pale Blue coloring among the 153 cards in
the 150 Series. Then, I started noting a stark contrast in the Blue coloring in the
subsequent two series. The one exception to this is the Waddell portrait which is the
only card in the 150 Series that has a deep Blue color. I cannot explain why, perhaps
it is an anamoly.

American Litho. must have changed printers or acquired a richer quality of Blue ink
when they started printing the 350 Series (and 460) cards. Some notable examples
of cards with a deep Blue color are Chase, Chase (dk cap), Chase (trophy), Clymer,
Groom, Knabe, Livingstone, Matty (dk cap), Nattress, Speaker, Thielmann, etc.

And, my point of all this, is that the sky affect we are seeing in the Ritchey card is
just the result of a difference in the printing process with respect to the application
of the Blue ink in the "350" cards. And, not a re-designed sky with clouds. And, until
we see a Ritchey with a 150 back with the "clouds in the sky", I think this "Bluer ink"
explanation is valid.

Posted By: JimB
I have not seen the slightest hint of the dove in any of the posted 150s or P350s without dove. I wonder if a conscious change was not made by someone backstage. This would also support the Piedmont Primacy theory in that Piedmont 350s started out like P150's and then made a switch at the same time all the other brands in the 350 series began to be printed.
JimB

Posted By: Jim T
Just based on the cards posted thus far, it seems that the dove effect is a result of the amount or richness of the blue used in printing the card.
