Posted By: Tom
Hello all,
I'm new to the t206 cobbs and value your opinion about this red Cobb I picked up with BIN.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8825584105&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I like the deep red better than the lighter ones. There appears to be a small wrinkle at the top of his head. Otherwise, looks pretty nice.

Thanks,
Tom

Posted By: PC
Well, since the same card in a PSA 2 slab is on the B/S/T for $1K, I'd say you certainly could have paid more for a lot less.

Posted By: Tom
Thanks for the feedback guys. Last Saturday afternoon I bought my first Cobb. Just like today, sitting around with nothing else to do, I placed a "low ball" offer on this one and won:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8817378703&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

About 10 minutes ago, another 4 (with better color) closed for 1575.

I'm afraid I might be catching Cobb fever. Is there a doctor in the house?

Posted By: Steve
I do not want to start any crap here but.

The case that Cobb is in looks awfully frosted at the bottom. And that seller has sold a Bobby Orr Rookie that a fellow on the CU forum took a big hit on. I hope this Cobb is ok. The orr if I remm was a 5 put into a 7 slab. Hope all works out with this.

For more info do history search over at the cu forums.

Steve

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
Before anyone jumps all over me this is just an observation and I'm not trying to degrade the seller in any way.

The sellers name in that last auction mentioned (PSA4 CObb) is "Whenitwasahobby". Does anyone remember "Whenitwasagame".

I hope people aren't doing that crap anymore where they switch cards. I'm maiking the comment based on the post previous to mine.

Here's the way I see things - if people are buying cards because they are happy with the way they appear then all is fine, you should be happy with your purchases. If people are buying the grades on the labels of those plastic holders then you may find yourself a little disappointed in some cases.

Posted By: Steve
Just to clarify I was speaking about the first posted Cobb.

Not the second.

In the Orr situation Psa did in fact conclude that the card was switched. Who switched it? Dunno, it was sold 2 or 3 times before Brian48 got it from the seller of the Cobb. IMO the seller of the Cobb should have known that the ORR case was compromised. He is afterall a seller of cards, not a novice.

Steve

edited to add:

In reading the original CU post I see that The seller was forced by PSA to make good on the card to the buyer.

Posted By: Josh K.
The first cobb (psa 3 red) looks good for the grade and was a good price. The second cobb (psa 4 bat on) looks a bit weak for a 4. Color is not very good (could be the scan) and it does appear to have a print defect or paperloss on the front.
