Posted By: bigfish
I am looking for some help regarding the e183 Heisel's Gum cards. It was one of the first gum cards ever made. I have a Levin Morton card graded sgc 50/4. He was Harrison's VP in the 1800's. I was wondering if anyone has seen these before and where can I learn more about them?

There is only one graded by PSA and sgc and it is the one I have. Any help would be appreciated.

Posted By: leon
I don't really know much about this series as it doesn't have any baseball related cards but with a quick search of a few resources I found a few things that could help a little.

Levi Morton
Republican
Served under Benjamin Harrison
1889-1893
Born: 1824 Died: 1920
Shoreline Vermont
Occupation: Teacher-Businessman
Married

So since he served as VP in 1889 my guess is that is about when the card was made. (I think I saw a pic of your card Toby but don't remember it). Jeff Burdick didn't put years in his Catalogue so it would be tough to tell a specific year from it without more info. Heisel's Gums is a category in the ACC. It goes from E180-E184. E183 is the designation for Nominee or Party gum, candidate photo's, (1 or 2) ... The others are E180 Actress Gum- small sepia. E181 which is Candidates (Campaign Gum) blue star edge. E182 Children (Ideal Gum) blue edge and E184 Photo Gum (actresses) sm. photos. Hope this helps a little.....

These N154 (Dukes Tobacco) cards are large real photo cards with a baseball players body with a Presidential Candidates head on the body. They are rare, and one of my favorite 19th Century issues. ca.1890

Posted By: bigfish
Thanks for all your time and help. This is an e183 card. Levi Morton is one of the more popular/tougher cards in the set. Not sure what it is worth but it is really cool. Going to trade it down the line.

This is not your typical nineteenth-century non-sport tobacco card collection, because so many of the cards are from very rare manufacturers su This set has got to be one of the all-time rare nineteenth-century tobacco issues. Terry Mitchell's nonsport book pictures samples of just about every pre-1900 nonsport set ever issued, and even this comprehensive volume does not feature a sample for illustration. We personally checked with Terry Mitchell about why this was. Heisel's Gum: E183 Nominee Gum (2 cards including Grover Cleveland,
