Posted By: jay behrens
instead of hicking the Bishop thread, I thought it would be better to start its own thread since I, along with tbob, am interested if anyone knows the story behind the Gilliam Squires stamp. First time I recqall seeing one was around 1983 when I first moved to CA and would see them once in a while at shows.

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home, I would be arrested. So, I go to baseball games and fit right in.

Posted By: robert a
It's tempting to get excited and think that Gilliam Squires might be associated with a certain issue such as E99, but it's been found on other issues as well.

I think so far, the only stamps (not overprints) that have been found on only one issue are "swift" (e104s) and "old put" (e98s).

The stamp never seems to be carefully applied to the card which tells me it might've been a collector (maybe even a kid with a stamper) who had a stack of cards and went through them one by one. It's not necessarily the collector's name though...could've been anything.

One's thing's for certain. The person who stamped them had good taste in cards and was probably on the West Coast.

robert
