Father's Baseball memorabilia

My dad is Jim Delsing. he played for the Yanks, Tigers, Senators, Brown's and Hollywood Stars. He's 80 years old and his health is not good. I am interested in any of his baseball history that might be out there. I have most of his cards with the exception of the Signal Hill gasoline and Glendale Meats cards. Can anyone help. Posted By: <b>Chris Counts</b><p>Bart,<br /><br />You probably already know this, but Jim Delsing was the only player in major league baseball history to pinch run for a midget ...<br /><br />Also, here's another amusing tid bit from none other than Dan Rather, who in an interview, reflects back on his time as a play-by-play anoouncer for the Houston Buffaloes, a AAA team ...<br /><br />"I remember the Buffalos were on the road one time, and we were recreating (a game) in the studio, and there was a close play at the plate. I was in that phase where I was trying to use baseball lingo -- I would use wheels instead of legs, like that -- I'm not proud of it, but that's what I did. And so after the center fielder, Jim Delsing, made this terrific throw, I say, "The runner breaks, Delsing takes two steps, he makes a perfect throw, and he's out at the plate." I paused. And then I said, "What a hose on that Delsing." My color man, Frank McGee, fell off the stool laughing. I couldn't continue. I was totally humiliated ..."<br /><br />By the way, do you have a Red Man tobacco card of him? He made the Red Man set in 1954. There are a few of them on eBay right now ...

As Murcerfan can tell you, this set is not cheap, and examples aren't especially easy to come by. If you wait for a nice one, it could be pretty pricey, and it could be a while. That example is relatively presentable (as these cards go) and a fair price.<br /> Very cool quest, good luck.

I was only<br />10 years old at the time and I remember him batting pretty good that<br />year; although, with likes of Joe DiMaggio, Henrich, Lindell, Bauer and<br />Mapes in the outfield your Dad didn't get much playing time. I think he<br />batted .350.<br /><br />Another thing I remember is your Dad's uniform number....#54, because it<br />was the highest # on the team and I didn't think the #s went that high.<br /><br />And, I do recall that in the spring of '50 your Dad was traded to the<br />St Louis Browns along with other players. I remember this quite well,<br />since one of those players traded with your Dad was one of my favorites,<br />George "Snuffy" Stirnweiss. Let me tell you, I was one upset 11-year old.<br />I didn't understand this; and, in your Dad's case he started off hitting at<br />a clip of .400 (in about a dozen games). And, a Left-Handed hitter at that<br />in Yankee Stadium. So, after all these years can you tell me why they, the<br />Yankees, did not give him more of a chance ? <br />
