Posted By: jay behrens
most people here don't bother with the SMR when it comes to vintage issues because the values are so far. I'm sure we all wish PSA was in the business of selling cards for what they list them in the SMR.

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. Posted By: jay behrens
That would be a first if the SMR has cards overvalued. They are usually undermarket by multiples.

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home, I would be arrested. So, I go to baseball games and fit right in.

Posted By: Bob
What are the online SMRs for the Byrne, Doolan and Magee? In Mastro, in PSA 5 they went for close to $700 each when the commission is figured in.

Posted By: David Vargha
The funny thing is that for pre-war cards, SMR and SCD can be valuable guides if one knows the multipliers or conversions. For example, cards in a set may go for around 2.5x SMR or VG/EX cards in another set might sell for the NM price in SCD. So if one has that basis, when other cards come up for sale, it makes it easier to know what a "reasonable" bidding range is.

DavidVargha@hotmail.com

Posted By: JimB
David,
I think you are right in general that SMR can at least be a good guide for the prices of cards relative to others in the set, but sometimes - particularly with caramels - I do not think they are aware of which cards are tougher and therefore demand higher prices in the real market. For example, the E93 Chance is quite a bit tougher than other E93s and demands a premium, but this is not acknowledged, even relative to prices of other E93s (even given that the whole set is undervalued by about 3x-4x).
JimB

Posted By: Bob
That has to be an error on the SMRs on Doolan, Magee and Byrne, otherwise I am selling all of my cards of these 3 guys and going to the Bahamas Seriously, I wonder if that is why my opposing bidder in the Mastro auction kept upping the bid (these were 3 of the 4 cards in the lot). Hmmmmmmmm.....
