Posted By: Mike Pugeda
How tough are the 1933 Butter Creams to find? I've checked fairly recently on e-bay with none listed. I picked up Lefty Grove (Oct. 1 back) at a recent show that is in F-G condition with light creasing and centering issues, the corners have light wear. I paid $175, does that sound about right given it's condition? Sorry no scan, I can try to post one later. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mike

Posted By: Will
Mike,

The Butter Creams are difficult to find, but in the past year or so, I have seen more and more on eBay. There is a Mickey Cochrane on eBay right now. $175.00 is not a bad price at all for the Grove in that condition. I am working on a set right now. If you care to take a look, I have set registered with SGC. The Butter Cream Babe Ruth is impossible to find though.

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

Will

They are very, very tough in 6 or above.

Of course in today's hobby the only three words that count are

condition, condition and condition

Best of luck in your hunt

Bruce

Posted By: Mike Pugeda
Thanks for the responses guys. I picked it up more as a type card because I had money burning a hole in my pocket and as you all know, it's slim pickins at the smaller shows.

Mike

Posted By: jay behrens
Bruce, hate to burst your bubble but the 3 words that drive this hobby are not condition-condition-condition. That may be your mantra, but it is not for many of us. If your mantra were true then I should getting beaters for my collection for nothing, but the market does not bear this out.

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home, I would be arrested. So, I go to baseball games and fit right in.

Posted By: Eric
Hello Mike,

Butter Creams are a great issue to collect. I've got a handful of them myself, most of them thanks to a large assortment sold on Ebay recently (about 40 different cards). Alike collecting any other rare issue, I wait until a large assortment of single auctions hits Ebay..that way the prices are driven down a bit. I like BC's because of their rarity, but also because of their unique size. Another appealing feature to me are the close up photo's used on many of the cards.

Posted By: Glyn Parson
I seem to see the grove often but almost never see any of the other cards from the set. I dont think the 3 most important words in the hobby are condition condition conditon. Id say rarity, desirability, then condition. the first 2 could be switched around probably.

Posted By: Brad Green

That's right! The Lefty Grove Butter Creams are very easy to find and are worth no more than $25 each -- irregardless of condition.

I am looking for the Sept 1 variation of the Grove Butter Cream, if anyone has one that they're willing to part with.

Posted By: Mike
I have had two Foxx's over the years. I sold one. I kept the graded 4. Though quite frankly, I thought it was a better card than the graded three I sold. Go figure.....many many of them are OC. But that just gives them character.
