Posted By: Richard
Well, Leon's post about his Nadja Caramel box inspired me to post some pics of my own George Close (E94) companion piece.

It is a cardboard box which once contained 240 count "Close's Butterscotch Balls." On the side is printed "The George Close Co., Cambridge, Mass."

I believe that this is the product that the overprint "Home Run! For Close's Butter Balls 4 For 1c." was advertising.

On the bottom is printed: Mr. Retailer - A favorite among Close's "Good Eaters is Ye Olde Fashioned Molasses Bar made for fifty years from an old fashioned formula. It gets its "tang" from the molasses we use, the old "open kettle" type. Close will never change that formula. There is always a popular demand for Close's Old Fashioned Molasses. "Turnover tells the tale."

The box measures approx 11"x8"x4"

Posted By: leon
Those are very cool. Thanks for sharing. First time I have seen that Close box....Hard to say if cards came in either, but as you said Richard, we know there is an overprint with almost the same ad on it as is on yours....

Posted By: quan
neat item, looks like a shoebox! Perfect for you to store some cards in there, that would complete the circle (now if only you can find some of those creamy close butter balls...).
