Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
The T206 Matthewson (bk cap) with the Broad Leaf 460
back (that graded only "AUTHENTIC") went last night
for $3300-plus on Ebay.

I was sitting "somewhat content" as top bidder most of
yesterday at about $2k. The Broad Leaf 460 back is the
only one I need now to have the diff. backs complete.

In the last 40 SECONDS, mind you, there was the usual
brisk bidding, as 3 other guys drove the $$$$ up above
the $3K figure. Of course, I expected this; but, I did
not think this card ("trimmed, or otherwise) would ever
reach this high a price.

So, I am still in the "hunt" for a Broad Leaf 460....can
anyone here help me ?

If you want to check-out the action on this Matty card,
the ebay lot# is 8772355080.
Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Gil and Hal

I don't know if you guys checked-out the details of the
last moments of the bidding. But, at 8:02 last nite, I
boosted my "hidden bid" to $2555 (to be "safe") as I was
still on top at that point. Within the next 40 Seconds,
4 bids topped my "hidden bid" to boost it to 3300+, and
unfortunately, steal the card from me.

That's fine with me, like that olde proverbial "fox and
the grapes" story, I can now rationalize in my mind that
at 3K+ I am not a buyer.

I actually was going to bid $3500 and I froze with about 5 seconds left......very frustrating. Anyways, I missed the last bid and looks like someone got a deal. Very tough back. I think this card could possible grade with PSA.....any thoughts?

Jason

Posted By: Jason Duncan
Considering the rarity of the back I think this card could possibly see $5K plus in the near future. Ted, looks like we both should have shot higher bids. Broadband unfortunately let me down. I doubt I have another shot at a Broadleaf 460 on a HOFer at this price. I did pick up the blank back McGraw e92 Dockman card for $709. What are your thoughts on that? I thought that was a steal as well. I think it has a shot at a 5.

Jason

Posted By: Wesley
In the December Mastro auction, A SGC 5 BL460 Walter Johnson throwing sold for less than $6K. That was only three months ago. What makes the ungradeable Matty such a great deal at $3300?

Posted By: Jason Duncan
Find another one. How many Broadleafs can you find? Also who says it is ungradeable? There is always PSA.....what do you think Hal?

Posted By: Hal Lewis
I don't think it will grade.

I am sure that someone would have tried all of the Big 3 grading companies before settling for an "AUTH" with a card that nice.

BUT...

it was still a steal at that price.

So was the Johnson in Mastro.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Jason D

My thoughts exactly, Jason. Contrary to what Hal said, I don't think
this card made the rounds of the Grading companies. It has a skewed
cut and most T206's with this type of cut are oversize. In fact, on
close observation it appeared that it was "tight" in the GAI window.

And, if I am right in this observation, that is "grounds" for giving
it an Authentic grade. Authentic grades are not only presented for an
"evidence of trim" card, but for anything that doesn't fit. I am sure
I will get some arguments on this.

Anyhow Jason, for a while last nite, you an I were on top of the hill on
this one; and, one of us would own it today.

Posted By: Jason D
Ted-

I almost emailed or called you but I figured either one of us would back down. I also guessed right that some other party would swoop down and beat us out anyway which is exactly what happened. I am still surprised I won the E92 McGraw blank back for only $709. That was a great deal as well. It may be just as good as a buy as the Matty was.

regards,
Jason

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Jason

No problem guy, I do appreciate your concern. Each one us
are on their own in these matters. Myself, I do not, off the
top of my head, know if I'm bidding against others on this
board. I guess I could printout the listing from the Vintage
Links and post it next to my computer. Although it doesn't
include everyone on this Forum.

Congrats on your E92 McGraw.
Posted By: matt
I enjoy the talk on the T206's and different backs, but unfortunately I don't have any.

Enclosed is a scan of a t205 "Moran" card with a Broadleaf back.

Terrible shape, but any estimates on value?
Would this even get a PSA 1? Card measures correctly.

I was the one who recently purchased 190 T205's and asked for help under the post "How Collectible are T205's a while back.
