Posted By: Richard Masson
The bottom area where the name is normally located is too faded to read. His name starts with an "S" and the team affiliation is Philadelphia. This probably narrows it down to Sanders, Schriver or Shannon. Who do you think it is?

Posted By: Zach Rice
I say Shannon, none of the others two are known in the N173 set with batting poses to my knowledge.

Edited to ad that the letter right next to the S really looks like an A but I can only find Sanders in two N173 poses, neither of which batting.

Posted By: Joe_G.
I'm putting my money on Pop Schriver - Bat over right shoulder (w Philadelphia) or possibly a new pose not found in N172 (more examples of this than many suspect).

Regards,
Joe G.

Posted By: Zach Rice
I go with Joe then. The letter right next to the S isn't an H and since Schriver is known with a batting pose with his bat over his right shoulder, new news to me , I would say its him 100 percent.

Posted By: Zach Rice
Maybe a new pose of Shannon then ? I looked at it in photoshop just a second ago and the second letter really has tends to look like a lower case A to me.

Edited to ad it couldn't be a lower case A because N173s are all in capital letters aren't they ?

Posted By: Joe_G.
I'm trying to answer quick before Jay steps in and ends the guessing game

If Schriver, as I propose, I realize it isn't accounted for in the N172s and contend as above that it might be a N173 only pose (not uncommon).

I'm going to dig a little further into Shannon & Shindle. Shindle was shown with Philadelphia during N173 run & the Baltimore uniform looks very similar to Phily.

Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Posted By: Joe_G.
For the record, the above 5 cards were all lifted off Dave Levin's site and account for the 5 known poses in the Cartophilic listings (405-1 to 405-5).

Regards,
Joe G.

Posted By: Joe_G.
I'm going with my original post, a new pose of Schriver. If true, that pushes the number of "cabinet only" poses up to around 35!

Shannon didn't play with Philadelphia until 1890 (Players League) which means he shouldn't show up on a Philadelphia N173.

Shindle, I don't think so.

OK, put an end to this Jay Miller

Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

Posted By: Joe_G.
You might have it Fred, I stopped looking at Sanders when I noticed a couple of his white uniform poses. Here is one of his dark Piladelphia poses, but not #4.

Joe G.

Posted By: Joe_G.
Yes, Sanders it is, notice how Sanders left his collar up for the photos while Schriver had his tucked down. Nice cabinet Richard, if it makes you feel any better, that would be an uncatalogued N173 pose Like Gypsy Queens, the common player cards (poses) are not catalogued all that well.

Joe G.

Posted By: Richard Masson
For those of you keeping score, this is actually a new pose, 398-5. The 398-4 pose shows him standing straighter and more upright (I am trying to get a scan to properly differentiate between them).

Saving the world, one pose at a time.

PS-I like the Rusie, just wish it were darker.

Posted By: Joe_G.
Cool Richard,

Once we post a pose for side-by-side comparison, we should suggest a description for your cabinet that differentiates it from pose #4. It may mean assigning a revised description to pose #4 to make it clear and easy to identify the poses. Hopefully it will be easier than the Wright portraits.

Regards,
Joe G.
