Posted By: Jerry
Thats me in the Tools of ignorance circa 1958. We were the Orioles in Senators Flannels. I guess the Senators were so bad at the time they decided to change the name. My favorite player at the time was Del Crandell, mainly because the Braves had beat the hated Yankees in the WS the year before.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Barry

Back in my playing days it was "stick ball" from early
morning till sunset. Then on weekends if we could get
at least 14 guys together, we would play "Hardball".

There were no organized BB leagues in our neighborhood.
No screaming parents in the stands......No nasty umpires
to argue with......No wire fences to confine us......and,
No coaches who favored certain kids (whose parents were
constantly "kissing up" to him).

It was pure "un-ADULT-erated" joy, playing ball back in
late '40s and thru the 1950's.

T-Rex Ted

Posted By: barry arnold
Ted, I too played hard ball until about '61 when i got to play Little
League sponsored by the Elks.
The Coach, who incidentally, had taken a group before mine to the Little
League World Series, surrounded me with bats on the ground each time
I got up to bat so I'd quit 'running away' from the ball when the pitcher
would throw the curve ball my way.
Admittedly, it mainly just taught me how to fall down again and again---
and how to win a city championship.
Have you found a tintype yet; i'm still lookin'.

best

barry
