Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
I now join the recent club of happy guys who have "completed" this set.
This is my 2nd T206 set that I've put together. My 1st set I considered
complete when I finally acquired Magie to make it 521 cards. Back then a
Vg card of Magie was available for less than $1000. And, the Joe Doyle
variation was unknown.

This 2nd set I do consider complete with 520 cards. I'm not going to pursue
Magie this time because spending lots of $$$$ for an "i" instead of an "e"
in a BB player's name doesn't excite me anymore.

Instead, this time I have wisely spent my $$ by acquiring all the different
Tobacco Adv. backs. I have the 16 basic backs and most of the Factory
variations for a total of 32 different backs. I think there are only 2 more
backs that I am missing.

And No, I do not have a Ty Cobb back since I do not consider this card
as a real T206 issue.
Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Thanx T206 Collector

About a week ago you posted your "mission accomplished" Thread and
you inquired about how many board members have completed T206 sets.
So, I am responding to your inquiry.

I no longer have my 1st set. This new set's overall condition exceeds
the previous one's. And, as I said, I am more proud of this one since
I have just about all the possible Tobacco backs that exist in addition
to the 520 different cards in the set.

Posted By: T206Collector
...that three Board members finished the set in the same week. There must be an awful lot of T206 sets out there. That should drive the price of T206 cards down. I mean, the sheer number of T206 cards on ebay right now is astronomical compared with other pre-war issues. But the prices seem to keep rising. I wonder if the market for T206 will ever dry up.

Posted By: john/z28jd
Thats quite an accomplishment Ted and not one too many people who collected the set would venture to do again, especially because the 2nd time it will cost more.I too have the 521 set complete and know i have over 130 extras, some triples.Ive thought about trying it again, but for now the only ones i get are upgrades....maybe someday,at least i have a great headstart

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
John

You are absolutely right, not too many would venture to
put together a 2nd set of T206 cards, nowadays. But, I did
it and it was at least twice as expensive as my first one,
and four times as much fun; since I had been there before.

John, it sounds like you are a 1/4 of the way to a 2nd set.
You have to go for it.....you have to join the "double T206
Set Club".

Posted By: JimB
When I was working on my set, I was mostly buying ungraded cards - at least for the commons. I accumulated most of my set before the advent of ebay and grading. But even the last 100 or so I bought in this way at shows and from dealers that I knew and trusted. In the past ten years or so, the HOFs and more expensive cards that I bought were graded. But I like having the majority of my set ugraded so that I can flip through a notebook and look at them. For all the graded cards I have made color photocopies and put them in the appropriate place in the notebook.
JimB

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Bryan

To answer your question, I have bought or traded for all
the cards in my set from either dealers I trust, or "walk-
in" collections at the only two Shows I set up at (Ft. Wash-
ington and Cooperstown). All 520 cards were UN-GRADED
when I acquired them.

Posted By: T206Collector
...any which way I can find them and then have the VG and up cards graded by SGC. I also will have HOF and SL cards graded by SGC in conditions under VG. I like to have nice scans of the fronts on the SGC registry, so anytime I want to look at them I can just go there. I am also going to eventually upload scans of all of my cards to a website like photobucket so I can view my entire collection from anywhere in the world.

Posted By: john/z28jd
My "set" only has 13 of the 15 brand backs, the other 2 brands (Drum and Uzit) are not part of my set, theyre in with the extras and in fact my extras have all 15 brand backs, does that beat you Bob?

When i was collecting backs way back when i was about 1/4 done with the set i made sure i got doubles of all the players on front of the tough backs in case i ever made a display with all 15 brand backs. So now my set has 13 backs but since i only have one Drum and Uzit thats why theyre not in with the set

Posted By: Bob
John- What I meant, with tongue firmly in cheek, is that I completed the set without a single back which is a "premium" back. Don't know if there are any others out there which don't have at least one Carolina Brights or an EPG or a Hindu, much less Drum, Uzit or Lennox...
Bob

Posted By: Bill
I have to agree with Lee about the fact that the Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25 should be higher on the scarcity list. My set is 99% (519) complete and I don't have one Sweet Caporal 350-460 Factory 25. I have 35 Old Mill Southern Leaguers, 23 American Beauty, 11 Cycle, 11 EPDG, 7 Tolstoi, 2 Hindu, 1 Carolina Brights, 2 Broadleaf, and 17 Sovereign 460, of which, all of these backs are higher on the T206 Museum scarcity list. Maybe their list should be reevaluated.

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
Bill and Lee

I didn't have a tough time finding a Sweet Caporal 350-460, Factory 25.
But, I am not saying it isn't tough, I guess I was just lucky.

I need only 5 - Factory variations to have a complete run of the 40 dif-
ferent backs. Then I will have what I consider a "complete" set of 520
plus 40 = 560 T206 cards (in Excellent or better).

One exception, my DRUM back is only in Fair condition. I acquired it from
Barry Sloate about 18 years ago.

Posted By: Zach Smith
I just started collection 206's within the last year or so. I'm up to about 60 now. I'm only 25 so I figure I have plenty of time to catch the entire set. I was just wondering if any of you guys who talk about having a complete set with a lot of doubles or triples of some of the cards would be willing to part with any? If so, let me know... I'm really interested in obtaining most of the commons due to the fact that I'm in the Navy and don't have the money to spend on the more expensive HOF's. I try to pick them up as I get a little extra $$$. Also, since this thread originally started about the back variations, I figured I put this link up: www.t206museum.com It's got alot of good info about 206's (backs, variations, etc.)
Thanks,
Zach
