Posted By: RayBAny body got the current figures handy? Since it's been quite some time that these two companies have been at the grading game it might be interesting to show this comparison. Has anyone taken this a step further and merged the numbers by grade? I for one would be interested in a spreadsheet of that type of data. Respectfully, RayB

(1-2)7319 (3-4)20372 (5)11013 (6) 6085 (7)3195 (7Q)76 (8) 1712 (8Q) 93 (9) 175 (9Q) 25 (10) 11 I spent about 20 minutes on SGC's site and could not get their pop report to work. I never have gotten it to work in several attempts over the years. I thought they had updated their website and made improvements. JimB

Posted By: FYSSomething is wrong tonight with the SGC population report. I use it a few times a month and have had no problems. As for site updates, many things have been updated, but not the population report.

Posted By: cmokingIn the past when I tried to get T206 pop reports from SGC's site, I couldn't get it for a T206 set, but had to go to the pop reports for the individual backs. Maybe I wasn't doing it right though. But when I saw that, the process was too daunting for me and I gave up.

Posted By: cmokingJim - one thing I have done that works is : once you've selected the year, the sport and the set....hold the CTRL button (and keep holding it down) as you click the Submit button. That has worked for me.

Posted By: jay behrensI'm not sure what SGC's problem is, but I can't access the pop reports from my computer, yet I can access it from my brother's computer. Makes no sense since I used the same browser on bother computers and we run the same security programs. Pop up blockers can create issues with the SGC site. All I have to say is that SGC seriouslly needs to get someone to revamp their site so that it is easier to use. Even after the current revamp, it isn't any better than it was before. It just looks different. Jay I've just reached Upper Lower Class. I am now officially a babe magnet for poor chicks.

Posted By: leonSGC's website has always had issues and still does. I am not sure what resources (money) it would take to fix it but they should. As much as I like their product, and believe it is the best, their website is not close....regards from the equal opportunity dictator...

Posted By: Marc S.with SGC's pop report site. The problem with T-206s, though, is that you would have to search individually by advertising back [e.g. Piedmont, Sweet Cap, Drum, Carolina Brights, etc.] and then consolidate them to form a T-206 population.

The most notable pre-war 10 is the 1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson SGC 98/10.0 I used to know the owner of one of the T-206 PSA 10s [he since sold it]. The rumour was, at least 4-5 years ago, that most of those tens were in the hands of a Japanese collector. Not sure if that is still the case... Cheers- ~ms

I did it very quickly, so I may have missed a back or two, but here's what I found: 15,759 graded SGC 10: 616 SGC 20: 1006 SGC 30: 2425 SGC 40: 4379 SGC 50: 3583 SGC 60: 2135 SGC 70: 741 SGC 80: 487 SGC 84: 250 SGC 86: 81 SGC 88: 37 SGC 92: 12 SGC 96: 7 -Al

I put the PSA 9Q into the PSA 7, PSA 8Q into PSA 6 and PSA 7Q into PSA 5. I split the SGC 70s into half 5 and half 6. I split the SGC 86 int half 7 and half 8. I split the SGC 92 into half 8 and half 9. There was no particular reason why I converted SGC grades into the PSA system and not vice versa. I'm sure there are a lot of theories about the grading differential. Is it a matter of one company giving out higher grades than the other? Or is it a matter of one company receiving higher quality cards to get graded than the other? Grade PSA SGC Combined 1-2...14.6%..26.0%..17.3% 3-4...40.7%..51.2%..43.2% 5.....22.1%..16.1%..20.7% 6.....12.3%..4.2%...10.4% 7.....6.4%...1.9%...5.3% 8.....3.4%...0.5%...2.7% 9.....0.3%...0.1%...0.3% 10....0.0%...0.0%...0.0% I couldn't get the numbers to format correctly, so I put in periods in between the numbers to try to get the formatting somewhat readable.

The pop reports and registry are tied to SGC's entire internal accounting system. That entire system is being overhauled. That's a much bigger job than a $500-1000 web job. Nothing can be done with the user interface until the internal system overhaul is complete - this process is underway, and is currently entering beta testing. Once that's done, the web development piece, which is purely cosmetic, begins. -Al

To this day - I think that was one of the worst decisions PSA ever made - especially since they have graded so many T-206s, and that information could have been so helpful to a better understanding of relative advertising back scarcity.

Posted By: cmokinganother way SGC can improve their pop reports is to have a different listing for players that have different poses in the set. Right now, it looks like they just lump in the total population of all cards of the same player in the same line. So there's no way of separating the population of different poses.
