Posted By: ALAN
Good evening

I have decided to have my 1910 Hassan "Arctic Scenes" set graded. I know its not the most sought after sets of the era. But the art work and the colorful scenes on these cards are very enjoyable !

I truly doubt any of the 25 cards will grade over ex+.

Here`s the problem, i cannot decide if i will have psa or sgc grade them.

Some say, if its vintage, SGC. If you want down the road resale, PSA.

I`m not trying to start an argument between camps. But is there a consensus on grading true vintage cards ??

ALAN

The few non-sports sets I collected, I haven't noticed a real difference price betweem SGC and PSA

Jay

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. Posted By: Anthony
On this set the question for me would be SGC or GAI. Putting them in a black matte is a no brainer. The artwork on these is a lot like the Explorers set of the same era, or T218's.
GAI's advantage is the holder is a little thinner and it has the card info on the top spine, so you can pick out a card easily in a stack.
SGC's advantage is the flip is arguably nicer, but neither one gets any major points for design.
If it was me I'd go with whoever was more convenient. Either holder will look a whole lot better than PSA's, flopping around in a baggie.

Posted By: John J. Grillo
I really do not see how you can go wrong with either PSA, SGC, or GAI. I think the resale value difference (if there is a difference) with PSA would be minimal for this set...I do not think it should be a factor in your decision imo. All 3 are solid. Some like the simplicity of the PSA holder, some like the Black borders with the SGC and GAI slabs.

If it was me, I would select either GAI or SGC in that order. But my main reason is that GAI and SGC provide more descriptive labeling (i.e. Catalog #, Year issued, Tobacco Company, variations, etc) then PSA. GAI does provide a label on the top flip which makes pulling cards out of a set for viewing easier if you keep them in a storage box.

Good luck on your decision

Posted By: warshawlaw
I cross over all my PSA to SGC because of the way they look. PSA will put them into a wrinkly sleeve in the holder. With a set whose value is mostly display, no question.

Posted By: quan
one more vote for GAI if you're not thinking of reselling. the inserts are like SGC, but their slabs are slimmer and not as clunky as SGCs'.
