I've heard the comments like the strip cards in high grade now are that way cause they were recently cut, but wasn't that the point of the cards? Just curious to hear opinions on them, as they're far scarcer than some of the other items from the same time period.<br /><br />-Kyle B.-

Posted By: <b>cmoking</b><p>I like some of them, and not others. The two I like the most are the W514 (120 card set + variations?) and the W551 set (only 10 cards). Both of these sets are interesting in that they have Ruth along with the other HOFers found in the T206 and Caramel cards. To me, that's an interesting linkage of two different eras.<br /><br />The negative side is that these cards are flimsy and not substantive...plus they are blank backed making them less interesting.

Normal prints, backward prints, numbered, un-numbered, numbers assending, numbers decending, captions, not captions, captions inside borders, outside borders, etc...etc... heck you'll find something new all the time ...<br /><br />Also, sure there are X number of baseball Wxxx's, but there are also Y number of Wxxx boxers, and Z number of other athletes, actors, etc.<br /><br />Pick a set, "finish" it, and tomorrow you'll see another card from that same set you don't have.<br /><br />Mark my word, strips are gonna take off soon (as well as Dallas -7.5 over Lakers)<br />

Posted By: <b>fkw</b><p>Here are some unusual strip cards and backs, The 1st one is the tough to find 1923 Fleer card (W515), 2nd is the rare Hendlers Ice Cream (W514), 3rd is the Barker Bread (W514), 4th is an UNCATALOGED Ruth card from the W519-1-2 that is far from completely checklisted (only 2 listed in the SCD), and the last one is a back backwards overprint (W516-2-1) caused by stacking sheets with wet ink. I like the colorful and crude strip cards, there are many rare and unknown variations still out there. Posted By: <b>identify7</b><p>I like the little crudely drawn, typically hand cut by kids, colored, quaint, w type cards. I particularly like including examples which the original owner did not like borders, or was careless about his cutting, as well as examples which would result in a higher grade. I find these cards to be a portion of our Americana which is portrayed in different methods throughout the range of cards available from the 1800s to the present.<br /><br />I like the black and white cards which are similar to the e-120s and similar types because these strip cards are much cheaper than their candy counterparts. But this is not a preference in the card, it is solely an economical accomodation.<br /><br />I like the exhibits (which are not hand cut) and their counterparts, the w-517s which are hand cut, and are available in a wide range of colors. The Exhibits are comparitively big cards (four to a binder page) and are available in some very striking colors. The w-517s are available in more subdued, somewhat earthy colors and are about 3x5", I think.<br /><br />There are other strip cards which are less common, and there are things to like about all of them. But in general, I am an individual who prefers duotone cards - so this group is ideal for my tastes.<br /><br />There are lots of printing and other errors, design changes and room for research here. And there is no doubt opportunity for those who do the research, to profit from their learning.
