Posted By: Scott Gross
W512 question based on these two cards:

Please forgive they're boxers, my question is about the subtitles. As you can see, the left card is a "normal" W512, with Name on top row, and number and caption on second row (not too legible: 49 Ex-Bantamweight Champ).

The card on the right is the one that interests me. First of all there is NO number. Secondly, the caption has changed from Ex-Bantanweight Champ to Bantamweight Champ. So, theoretically, the un-numbered Goldstein "pre-dates" the numbered card, since he is the "Champ" as opposed to "Ex-Champ."

I know a few baseball W512's had a "second" printing with team updates, but the still had numbers (correct??). The boxers probably had a second run, since Tunney had both "Light-Heavyweight Champ." and "Heavyweight Champ." cards (BUT both have same number, 44).

So, has anyone seen a baseball (or other W512) without a number?
Or, is this one of those "who knows how many different strips where produced in the 1920's" situations???
Comments ???
