Posted By: Damian
Thanks for the e-mail. Scary similarities. The seller scans look different in some ways. Shadow on right front edge and full shot of the back or maybe even a different back. Did they steal the image and create a counterfeit? I don't think there is anyway I pay for this card

Posted By: john/z28jd
Looks like they made a copy from the scans so you would actually get the card in the picture but in person youd realize its just glued together photocopies. If you see a price that low for a card of this caliber chances are theres something wrong, especially since this card is listed in the right category. The only thing that would throw someone who didnt know better,is the amount of legit bidders on the card.

If this card was legit your winning bid wouldnt have lasted the first couple hours as a high bid

Posted By: john/z28jd
Robert, about where this guy would get this card.....since they dont list it as being rare and they did have other t206s then it wouldnt be hard to imagine someone, somewhere stumbling across a rare card by luck.In this case its too good to be true but im sure theres people out there with t206s who dont know how rare certain cards are

Posted By: john/z28jd
Yeah i wouldnt spend my time looking for them but if you know what youre looking for you can find deals out there.I collect errors and at ft washington ive bought cards for 1/10th what id expect to pay on ebay if the card was listed properly. It would be alot harder with cards like the Demmitt,st louis variation to find someone who doesnt know, because its listed in a price guide.I would never say it couldnt happen tho

Posted By: pete
i'd question them first and then use paypal with the insurance thing, if they dont take paypal, i'd refuse to pay and report them to ebay...thats just me
pete-

my best pitch was the one that made it to the plate!

Posted By: Damian
I told the seller I would not pay. They asked me to leave feedback and just forget it. I told them I have reported them to ebay(I did) and that I would not leave any kind of feedback and that it was in ebay's hands. Thanks for everyone's help. This one is in my rearview mirror.

Damian

Posted By: davidcycleback
Zach, you should have added that the Patriot Ant-Terrorism Act targets the sale of stolen LOC documents and artifacts via the internet ... As you wish, feel free to spinkle in words and phrases like "Federal detention center" and "John Ashcroft."

To be serious, there are only two ways this card could appear on eBay: if it was stolen from the LOC (no, the LOC doesn't have garage sales) or if it's a counterfeit. Either way, you don't want to buy it.

Posted By: Jon Canfield
On the last auction link posted, I find it funny his description states...

"I bought his entire collection except for his 1951 Bowmans..."

Then, at the very end of the auction description, the seller states...

"Check Out My other Auctions of

1951 Bowman Willie Mays, 1951 Bowman Ted Williams, Mickey Mantles, Goudeys, Clementes, Hank Aarons, 48 Bowmans, 49 Bowmans, 51 Bowmans and Much, Much more."

I guess he did get those '51s after all?
