Posted By: Todd Schultz
Anyone know what might have been inside this? Copyright 1937, 3 5/8" x 5 5/8".

I know Leader Novelty was involved with the R316s in 1929, and I think they had some non-sports issues, but this one looks like it should hold some baseball-related postcard or such. Still, I can't find any set that could arguably match up. Any help appreciated.

Posted By: leon
I saw that on ebay and thought it was not card oriented enough to go for. Very cool....I just have so much crap I am running out of room for more. A little research shows that it could have been a small toy or card in the packet with or without candy. Leader Novelty did put out a set of baseball cards that were on boxes according to one website description:

"VERY RARE - 1.75" by 2.6" in size, Leader Novelty Candy Co. cards were mostly unknown until a group of them with an original candy box showed up in the famous Sotheby's Copeland Collection Auction of March 1991. Found in sepia, red, green, or purple tint, there was said to be 33 cards in the Copeland group, but only 13 different have been cataloged to date"

I happened to get the 2 from this collector (long lost Frank Ward) and have seen about a dozen others in total.....

Posted By: leon
If you will notice it looks like the scan is of a wrapper and not a box. It is dated later than the aforementioned 1929 box which was another reason I didn't go for it. It would have been a cool add on piece...but like I said...I am starting to have too many.....regards
