Posted By: jay behrens
I'm sure this will reappear as a pre-rookie photo of Cobb, Wagner or Ruth. Neat picture though.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

Posted By: barrysloate
I think that may be the first vintage photo I've ever seen where everybody is holding a bat and it looks like a ball too. Darling image, but the kids have these dour looks on their faces as if they are prisoners-of-war (child division).

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
Barry, that dour look on their faces is that they knew that they would be exploited in about a hundred years, or so. The kids probably knew that they would loose their identities and that someone would start calling them Babe, Ty, Nap (or something else) in an effort to garnish a little financial gain... Doesn't the boy in the middle look like a young George Sisler... Could we possibly call this a pre ROOKIE card?

Posted By: ramram
Jay -

Unfortunately, it closed earlier today. I'm not sure if the buyer frequents the board or not. (btw...no, I don't know the seller either).

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=8700979518&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT

Rob M.

Posted By: identify7
How could a bunch of kids come up with all of those bats and balls?

I rarely saw a new ball, much less got to hit one, in the 50s. Until the little league.

Those bats are too big for them. I bet this is all of their parents team's equipment. That's why they look so unhappy. They get to keep none of it.

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
Robert (bresdo),

Funny you should mention "Butch". Butch is still alive and can be found signing autographs at a local flea market, every so often, in San Diego.

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
Pete,

You're right, he passed away about two weeks ago (28SEP05). Wow, at least I'll know why he's not there the next time I drop by. He used to sign with another guy but I don't recall the other person's name.
