Posted By: jay behrens
Is 1923 the correct date for this issue? I jsut went through my list of players that only appear on Willards. Only 2 players had their career continue past 1922 and 3 never played past 1921. One player never played in 1921, but played in 1920 and 1922.

I would say it is pretty safe to say that this set WAS NOT issued in 1923 as it would have included at least 4 players that never played after 1921. Personally, I would lean towards 1921 as the date of issue although a strong case for 1922 could be made too.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

He last played for the Philadelphia Phillies in 1920 - but he is clearly pictured as a Phillie on his Curtis Ireland card. 1921 makes sense. 1923 seems quite a bit off.

Jimmie Keenan is another example. Played one game in 1920 - and had a very short stint in 1921 before he disappeared from the majors.

~ms

All the others started 1920 or earlier and ended by 1923, most being out of the majors by 1921.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

With no team designated on the card, it hard to use that as a dating criteria beyond when the photo was taken, but doesn't tell us much about the card.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.
