Posted By: joe brennan
Maybe I'm just not looking in enough places but I searched for Lee's stat for St Louis to date this post card. I figure mid '60's, but no record of him. Any help out there. Thanks Joe

Posted By: Mark Macrae
Looking at his uniform, it looks like a pullover double-knit jersey which wasn't introduced until the early 1970's (Cardinals specialists can tell you the specific year) The Baseball Encyclopedia doesn't show a Lee Thomas playing for the Cardinals during the 1970's, however the Cardinals' media guide shows a "Lee Thomas" who worked as an administrative assistant in the sales & promotions department during the mid-70's. You might find his picture in a Cardinals yearbook to match it up. Wouldn't be the first time a front office staffer made it onto a team-issued set of photos.

Posted By: Todd Schultz
Lee Thomas joined the Cards as bullpen/batting practice coach in May 1971, although I don't know how long he held that post.

Posted By: Wayne Grove
This is probably from the 1971 or 1972 Cardinals Post Card Set. Lee Thomas joined the Cardinals prior to the 1971 season after playing with the Cardinals Tulsa farm team during the 1970 season. He served the Cardinals as a batting practice pitcher and bullpen coach for the Cardinals in both the 1971 & 72 seasons then managed for the Cradinals in the minor leagues in 73(Sarasot) & 74(Modesto). He last played in the ML with the 68 Astros and played in Japan in 69. So I would say 71 or 72 for the date of issue for this team issue PC.
