Posted By: jay behrens
At work tonight, it dawned on me that my brother's (that bowlingshoedork) birthday is coming up on Sept 1st. I thought it might be a neat idea to know when people's Bdays are so we can wish them a happy one since we are some-what family and definately friends here.

Mine is Oct 9th

And belated Happy Bday to all you August babies.

Jay

My place is full of valuable, worthless junk.

Of course, statistically, it won't hit 100% until 367 people were in the list (noting that Lena Blackburne and Rebel Oakes were both born on February 29--another point sure to drive Rebel cards up further in price).
Having a birthday in mid April also means that a lot of stadiums were opened on my birthday. Shea, Oakland-Alameda, etc...Also on April 17th 1956 Mickey Mantle hit two homeruns in one game that measured over 500 feet each.

And even more exciting, Paul Harvey and Henry Ford.

As a birthday gift, I'll take any T206's you have lying around taking up space. I just started working on the set in any grade. Only 494 cards and virtually all of the HOFers to go!

Posted By: Ted Zanidakis
MAX

You remember well about the statistics of shared birthdates.

The way I heard it framed, though, in a fully crowded elevator
(approx. 30 people) the probability that two of these people
having the same birthdate is 95% certain.

Oh well, I am not impressed with the BB players whose birthday
I have in common. So, I will be satisfied with the fact that
Walter Johnson was born the next day. He has always been my
favorite pitcher.

Posted By: David McD
Along with approximately 1/365th of humankind I share April 20th with HOFer Dave Bancroft, Don Mattingly, Adolph Hitler and Bob.

The first ML game ever played at Fenway was on April 20, 1912.
(from http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/thehighlander/Highlander14page6.htm):
The Red Sox actually played their first game at Fenway 11 days before, defeating Harvard University in an exhibition game played in a snowstorm. Then the Red Sox and Highlanders had to sit out two rainouts before facing off on Saturday April 20. The future grandfather of President John F. Kennedy, Boston Mayor John "Honey Fitz" Fitzgerald, threw out the first ball in the park that was built at a cost of $350,000 that would come to be known as "Boston's Sistine Chapel."
They played on into extra innings. Boston prevailed finally winning, 7-6, on a Tris Speaker RBI in the bottom of the 11th inning. Red Sox spitballer Bucky O'Brien and Sea Lion Hall defeated New York's Jumbo Jim Vaughn.

Also of note on this date in baseball history (1945): Braves manager Casey Stengel is struck by a taxi, fractures a leg, and will miss much of the season. The cabdriver is nominated Sportsman of the Year in Boston by a local newspaper, weary of Stengel's humor in the face of the Braves' pitiful record.

You can go to this page and type in a date to find what happened on a specific date in baseball history: http://www.baseballlibrary.com/baseballlibrary/chronology/
