RE; Sgc re-slab into new holder from old??

I am about to purchase some cards that are Sgc graded, but are in their older holder that show the 1- thru 100 grade only on their label, not their newer ones that now show that, along with the Psa equivalent # next to it as well.<br />If sent to Sgc for reslabbing into their new holders, would they keep the same grade asigned or would they need to regrade since all grading companies have gotten a bit more strict since these were originally slabbed.<br />

You can tell them you want a minimum (the current grade) and they will only re-holder those cards that meet, or exceed, the old holder grade. So the short answer is ....they re-evaluate them and there is no guarantee. good luck...

Posted By: <b>FYS</b><p>They will revaluate the card and the do reserve the right to adjust the grade. If the grade goes down, a reimbursement will be given for the drop. The amount is at their descretion. I have read a couple of posts on this board describing the process. <br /><br />I disagree with Leon on the grade limits. I think if a card is overgraded, they are going to ask to break it out and give you money for the difference. I do not think they will want the card on the market. <br /><br />In any case, the guarantee/buyback program is all the more reason to buy SGC.

Whats my worst case, I have to pay to have the same grade? (I'm talking about cracking the slabs and resubmitting them) Here is a possible problem, they are the only graded sgc examples, will I get a non-bias grade?, Or should I send them in their slabs and ask for a regrade? I like sgc and most of the time I agree with their grades. Thanks for any reply P.S. They were all graded in succession

Posted By: <b>FYS</b><p>It is a risk reward question you must answer yourself:<br /><br />1. Submit in the slab and you will get your money back if any are found to be trimmed or a lower grade. Seriously doubt you will get any grade boosts. <br />2. Break out and submit. You then lose any chance for a refund if they are graded lower or are trimmed etc, but you have the potential of a grade increase. Sounds like you feel you actually may have a chance for an increase. Unless you have a great deal of experience with graded SGC slabs, I would not count on this. <br /><br />My personal opinion would be to reslab (option #1). <br /><br />

Posted By: <b>leon</b><p>I have never seen them ask to crack an old SGC holder if the grade doesn't look up to snuff of current levels. I know 3 graders, the general partner, the admin person, and the VP of Operations...and have had numerous conversations with all of them. I have never heard of what you are talking about...unless they changed their policy recently. I have only submitted one old SGC holder to a crossover. It crossed over the same grade. Good focus, no creasing or breaks in print, clean spot free back, edges straight and one corner(lower right) with a slight touch otherwise sharp corners. <img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1125112605.JPG">

Posted By: <b>Anson</b><p>With what I can see, I would give a 60. Of course, it's impossible to really grade the card without having it in hand. I find that many imperfections do not show up on scans or even quick naked-eye glances. Sometimes it takes me a minute or two to spot a small wrinkle.

The one time I had a card re-evaluated I (now) remember holding my breath when I got it back. Honestly I didn't remember that old thread until I just saw it again. AND it's only a month old....I think I need a break....their policy speaks for itself....regards

Posted By: <b>Chris McAlister</b><p>60 EX 5: 80/20 or better centering, minor rounding or fuzzing of corners, roughness or chipping along edge (no layering), one VERY slight surface or "spider" crease may exist on one side of the card, gloss may be lost from surface with some scratching that does not detract from the aesthetics of the card. <br />50 VG/EX 4: 85/15 or better centering, corners are slightly rounded with modest surface wear. Light hairline crease may show on one or both sides. A light tear or surface break may exist. <br />40 VG 3: 90/10 or better centering, corners more rounded--but not excessive, stronger creasing may exist. Poorer focus, registration, and discoloration, and staining are more noticeable. <br />Based upon SGC's own scale my card merits more than a 40.
