Posted By: Dan Koteles
this isuue is as tough if not tougher then the Mathewson and the price is right.

due to the scarcity of the card, it is upto the sellers demand for price, I have one(not for sale)in a vg+/vgx and my asking price would be 3500.00 if this gives you any help.

Good luck
Dan

Posted By: Nex
Chance was only issued in the '14 set- he was replaced by Hal Chase in the '15. Along with a handful of other players (Cashion, Lord, Callahan, and a few others I can't recall without my notes) who only appear in the '14 set, anyone looking to get one of each player for a combined set would have only one choice-'14.
For reference, I picked up my SGC 40/3 Chance last month from a board contributer for 1136. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5215977919&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEAFB%3AIT&rd=1 ) It was well below my max snipe. Bill Goodwin also had one in his case at the National, I believe it is in his next auction. Interestingly both his and mine have decent corners on 3 ends, and the lower left very rounded.
Besides these 2 I've seen one other on ebay in the last year that went for about 1400. in similar condition (I beleive) and one that was part of a Lipset lot a year ago as well. None of these are the same card.
Hope this helps.

Posted By: Stan
Appeared ONLY in 1914 and NOT 1915 because Frank played his last game on April 21 1914 therefore he was NOT included in 1915 set thus making this card a RARE Variation.
It is RARE and tough to find in good grade because it could only be found inside Cracker Jack boxes, usually with staines and creases...

Posted By: Paul
Are the Chance and horizontal Matty any rarer than the other 1914s? I don't see why they would be. Just because the card was changed or deleted for the 1915 set, that doesn't make the card in the 1914 set any scarcer. If I insisted upon having a 1914 Cobb, and had no interest in a 1915 Cobb, would I have as tough a time finding it as a horizontal Matty or a Chance?

Posted By: Scott Elkins
I figured that was a decent price (plus, the card didn't look bad for the grade actually). Though, not as great of a deal as the SGC 40 for $1136.11!!!!! I was going to place a bid of around $2k-$3k on that one, but had to get BCD paid off and thought the card would go for over $5k.

I still believe the Chance is undervalued. Especially, since the Matty is bringing astronomical numbers. When Lipset wrote the Encyclopedia for caramels, both were valued at the same price. I also have price guides from the early 80's that list the Chance $50 more than the Matty (I believe this was due to the fact that one could find another Matty in the 1915 issue and couldn't find a Chance in that issue).

Posted By: Scott Elkins
You certainly are lucky having two! Anyway, when the Chance finally starts to move upward like the Matty has, you will have an extra one to get some good money or trades for!

Posted By: HW
Scott,

What price guides from the early 80's list the Chance for more than the Mathewson? I am not doubting you, but I always remember the Mathewson listing for the most in the entire set.
