Posted By: Jimi
Howdy all,

I haven't been to a card show in over 10 years, so my going to the National is going to be huge! I wanted a couple of helpful hints before showing up.

WARNING You may witness dumb questions!

1. I want to spend money (obviously) there, but do you guys/girls typically do as far as carrying cash/credit cards around where thousands of people will be. Do I carry a bunch of money with me if I want to spend a bunch there? Are there other forms of payment there besides cash?

2. Have we decided on a luncheon/dinner? I haven't heard about this subject in a month or so.

3. Anybody else staying at the Sofitel?

4. Do any of you carry cards around intending to sell, or is that just dumb and better luck on Ebay?

Thanks for listening in!

Jimi

Jimi

Posted By: leon
I will be sending out rsvp's again about 2 weeks or so before the National.....RSVP's will be "reserved"

It will be at Shoeless Joes Sports Bar and Grill. 10200 W.Higgins Road, Rosemont, Il, 60018

The dinner will start at 6:30 (you don't need to be prompt but please not CA time, or else we will be gone ) We can chat and drink for an hour and then.....

A dinner buffet will be served starting at 7:30. That should give folks going to the game time to get to it if they want to. The buffet will be either $18.99 or $19.50, depending on if I go for the gourmet chicken sauce stuff...and probably will, and a 15% gratuity. There will be an open Dutch bar. Thanks for the help and I will give a friendly reminder as we get closer and will hope to get a closer to exact head count. I am planning on 60-75 folks.

regards,
moderator dude

Posted By: davidcycleback
To prevent pickpockets in crowds, a key is to keep a wild rat in the pocket with the cash. Though it takes about two months to train a rat to differentiate between your hand and a stranger's. Trust me, if there is a crowd to witness the first pick pocket attempt, there ain't going to be a second attempt.

Posted By: tbob
I always carry my wallet in my right front pants pocket at card shows, race tracks and other places where undesirables mingle Seriously, you might look like a dork doing it but too many professional pickpockets can remove your wallet from your back pants pocket to do anything else. I also limit myself to carrying around one VISA card and one check and my driver's license along with the money.

Posted By: Zach
I suggest carrying around cash as well. My dads in a wheel chair so he carries his wallet etc. in a fanny pack pouch like thing that he can easily wear around his waste. Im not sure if any dealers accept credit cards...your best bet is to carry cash and to protect it. I will be staying at Embassy Suites....cant wait !
