Posted By: James Feagin
Age and longevity have always seemed to fascinate me. In the baseball realm, this became of particular interest when while trying to get several 1952 Topps autographed through the mail, the majority of the players had passed on. I became curious whether any players from the 1934 Goudey set (my favorite) were still living. Much to my surprise, according to baseball-reference.com both Billy Werber (97) and Linus Frey (96) were alive and well. There aren't too many pre-war players still alive with cards. Immediately Bob Feller, Bobby Doerr, and Al Lopez also come to mind. Who is the oldest living major-leaguer? Where can I easily find out the answer to this question without doing hordes of research? I also remember reading an SCD in the mid-80's which stated the oldest living player from the t206 set had passed away. Anyone know who that was? Like I said, for some reason this fascinates me, and I'm looking for resources.

Posted By: Rich Klein
The Sabr biographical committee, headed up by the indefatiguable (sic) Bill Carle keeps tabs on all players living over the age of 90. One of the guys here at Beckett had a similar question and he supplied me a complete list within hours

Rich

Posted By: Adam J. Moraine
I thought the oldest living player was Al Lopez. I am almost 110% sure he was born in 1905.

Best Regards,

Adam J. Moraine

NEVER MIND, I stand corrected, after reading Andrew Parks' list at the top of the thread. Lopez is the 7th oldest.

Posted By: barrysloate
Chet Hoff was the oldest major leaguer of all time, living to 107. He was born in 1890 and died in 1998. No other major leaguer has even lived to 102, although Radcliffe is the second oldest player ever in organized ball.
