Posted By: scott brockelman
anyone want to wager how soon we will see either a doctored slab/scan or a popped out and doctored back & front scan of the josh gibson toleteros card that lelands and sgc wisely produced and sent out to hundreds, maybe thousands of registered lelands bidders. sure it's not likely but i can assure you one of these will fall into the hands of an unscrupulous ebay seller.

my question is why would these 2 entities which are much smarter than this, use a slabbed repro to promote themselves? this just makes it more difficult for the hobby to police its self from fraudulent activities, we already have a plethora of repros floating around, why make more.

any thoughts?

scott

Posted By: dennis
i think it is a promo card and a nice way to promote their auctions. but this thought entered my mind too. but, a scammer needs to go no farther than a larry fristch add to order all the reprints to alter that he needs. thats a bigger problem imo.

Posted By: Julie
nicer than the actual card? No wear, clear clean color. I have no intention of throwing it away. Had 3 graded cards (the N162 chess players), and now I have four (a SAMPLE).

I don't expect it to become valuable, but 10-15 years ago Mastro sent me a card I'd paid for, with two cards on either side of it for packing (my, how times have changed!), and one of those two cards was the 1913 blue=tinted Lajoie playing (they're regular cards on the other side) card. I still have it. I know it lists for between 10-20 dollars; don't know if anyone actually buys them...nice card.

Like everyone else, I've always wanted a Josh Gibson...gee, look what I found.
