Posted By: leon
Look at the grainy one. When I took it out of the holder I immediately felt the paper. It was rough...and I went "crap" to myself....then felt the real one...it's feel is smooth, of course.....ya can't fake vintage cardboard if you know what it feels like....imo..

Posted By: Dan Koteles
who's other card is that for you to example the difference???

The only way otherwise that you might have prevented this was to do a consistency check of this sellers items graded and non.

Even the best can be fooled. I dont think that you'll have a problem w/ your background.

Good luck !

Posted By: dan mckee
Sorry Leon, I thought so that is why I didn't buy. I do hope you get your money back. But don't feel bad! I bought 2 D304's I needed about 6 years ago off of ebay. I had them about a year and a half and in my set. I was flipping through my set while on the can and I noticed these 2 looked different! I put a glass on them and yes, they were fakes. I had paid about $150 each for them. I couldn't even remember the ebay seller I got them from. Anyway, Scott Gaynor listed these 2 (real) a few weeks after I noticed mine were bad. If he would have known the max bid I keyed in for his 2, he could have shilled and retired!! So after 30 years of collecting, and having them in my hands, I was still fooled. The doctored reprints are getting better and better. The US Caramel Ruth fakes are now appearing w/o the white spot at the top right. The thieves are getting smarter, this is a good reason why we need grading. Ouch! did I say that?? Dan.

Posted By: leon
I hear ya. I still have a Lajoie D304 fake I got off of ebay. I paid $40 for him about 5 years ago. I keep him for a reminder. As for the Ruth's above everyone should notice that when they copied the top one (however they did it) it made everything a tiny bit bigger.....the letters, the faces, everything...plus the grainy look, fake browning, and rough paper. All are signs of a fake....if nothing else folks can learn from this. I doubt this seller will risk a negative and I should be ok, hopefully. I emailed him last night but probably won't get the response till I get home this evening.....regards

Posted By: leon
The response from the seller:

I will send the money to you as soon as I receive cards. I bought these years ago and have never seen any others and the book doesn't show anything different to help me. But your scan shows different card for sure. Even the book says sepia which I thought these looked like. Your one doesn't look like sepia tone so that's really confusing.

I figured it was an honest mistake.....regards
