Posted By: rob
It appears they listed all the items on ebay from their current auction. It allows for absentee ballots and bidding online. Is this common practice among auction houses, I have not seen it before, but am relatively new to the hobby. It seems kind of odd/not cool to me. Why not just put everything on ebay and skip the autcion? I guess it provides more exposure, but if I wanted my stuff on ebay, why would I take it to an auction house and pay an extra 15%? I can see both sides of the story here, just wondering what you all thought of this practice.

Posted By: Hal Lewis
Just extra exposure. No harm in it.

I don't know why anyone would BUY through EBay, however, since the buyer's premium is 20% on EBay and 16% through the auction directly.

Plus, the internet bidding does not continue into the extended period (when most of the lots are still being bid on)... so it really appears that REA is doing everything to ENCOURAGE people on EBay to go to their auction website and bid that way.

Posted By: barrysloate
Hal is right- ebay gives REA incredible market exposure, but encourages bidders to register with the auction house. It's a wonderful way to reach out to a new universe of collectors and no one needs to get penalized if they register with the house. Great for consignors, too. (this is an unsolicited endorsement of my favorite auction)

Posted By: pete
now there will be a ton of more collectors outbidding me....i have enough trouble trying not to be outbid by the normal collector, to me it seems the prices get bumped up a little bit higher because of this....
pete-

Posted By: Aaron M.
so the E-Bay absentee bids are calculated into the auction lots at 4:00 PM PST on April 30? Will these absentee bids then be automatically reflected at the REA site?

Thanks,
Aaron
