Posted By: <b>Richard</b><p>Hello Everyone,<br /><br /> After quite a few months of reading the posts, admiring the pictures and appreciating all of your willingness to share information, I figure it's about time to step out from behind the shadows. <br /><br />As for who I am, the name's Richard Armstrong. I'm a 20-something computer programmer living in Ontario, Canada. I started collecting as a kid in the 80's and have thousands of Donruss and Fleer cards to back it up <img src="/images/wink.gif" height=14 width=14> <br /><br />After a short hiatus, I have come back to collecting, this time focusing on a slightly different era. Right now I am collecting pre-1960, but my true fascination is with pre-1930 stuff. Historically, I've been a set builder, so I'm sure I'll eventually take that approach, but at this point, I am just collecting cards here and there from the sets that catch my attention.<br /><br />Moving forward, my ability to contribute will be limited at first (unless you have a computer question <img src="/images/wink.gif" height=14 width=14>), but I will certainly make the effort!<br /><br />Thanks, all of you, for building a great board!<br /><br />Richard.<br /><a href="http://www.richardarmstrong.ca" target="_new" rel="nofollow">http://www.richardarmstrong.ca</a><br /><br />

The one thing that blows my mind though is all the disposable income you young bucks have. When I was in my early 20's fresh out of law school I barely had a pot to, well you know. Now I see guys in their late 20's, early 30's bidding and winning cards worth thousands and I am truly amazed...

Posted By: <b>Richard</b><p>For the record, I've always chosen baseball over hockey (except in high school when I chose basketball over hockey) <img src="/images/wink.gif" height=14 width=14> and have always been fascinated with the history of the game -- and collecting.<br /><br />That said, I do have some pre-1930 stuff, just not too much. I slowly got back into collecting when I was re-introduced to the Sporting News Conlon issues. Once I started reading those, and researching the players, I was hooked again. That was back in 2002. The "vintage" collection I have built since then is mostly late 40's early 50's stuff (most notably 48 Bowman, 51 Red Backs, 51 Berk Baseball, '54 Red Heart) because it is easy to find and affordable. Lately, I have been looking at pre-ww1 stuff, having added 5 T206s, a few caramel cards, a T201, and a '15 CJ. Last night, I secured another raw '15 CJ, an R316 Sewell, an E210 Joe Dugan and a small lot of '59 Fleer Ted Williams (okay, so that's not prewar, but...)<br /><br />To be sure, though, I am on a budget. I am engaged and saving to get married, and would like to buy a house in the not-to-distant future.
