Posted By: Tony Turner
Hello, I posted a while back trying to get a low grade T205 Addie Joss. There is one that just posted on ebay two days ago and I was wondering if I could get all of your opinions on wether you think it is real or not before I bid on it. I highly value all of your discussions and opinions on these matters. Thanks

Tony

Posted By: J Levine
The Joss is a fake...First off, the printing color is a little off on the front...the gold borders look wrong too since there seems to be no wear which almost never happens. The back is too white as well...I would stay away as it is also a private bidder situation...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=86841&item=5176423868&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

-Joshua

Posted By: Judge Dred
I requested scans of the card that are not cropped. The scan/picture in the item description doesn't show the edges or corners. The back of the card has good coloring but I hate auctions where the bid list is private. It appears that this is the first auction where he has kept the bid list private. The 97.3% is a little unsettling:

http://www.toolhaus.org/cgi-bin/negs?User=parklanespirit&Dirn=Received+by

Posted By: Thomas Walcott Sr
This card is definately real as I saw a close up scan but the seller is rude and onnoxious plus his feedback is horrible maybee we can steal this card.

Posted By: Judge Dred
Steal this card? I would doubt it because the seller is hiding behind a cloak of non-revealed bidders. This is why I don't like those type of auctions - it makes it impossible to determine if there are shills involved.

I saw a few more scans and it looks legit - the printing on the back looks a bit off kiltered (like a diamond cut, but not miscut). I bet that the card goes for over a grand and we'll never know who is bidding on it... look at the sellers past items - this seems to be the first item he's selling with the bidder IDs hidden...

Posted By: J Levine
I still believe it to be fake...This set was widely reprinted and the Joss in the reprint set was a Piedmont Fact. 25...the back looks way too white and the register on the front does not look correct to me. Even my off condition Joss looks clearer...Also, if it is a diamond cut, the front would show that too and again, t-205s are most often miscut left to right or top to bottom, very rarely a diamond cut. Could this all just be the scan quality, sure...but why not get it graded and be done with it...if it grades even a 2, it could command $500-$700...I might bid if I could get a guarentee on grading.

Joshua

Posted By: Jerry
It looks fake to me. Also, the scan of the back makes it appear to be trimmed, anyway. But it doesn't look real.

Posted By: Julie
Some nice touches--the round spot, as mentrioned, and the uneven red that sometimes colorsw the lips of T205 Josses. But a fake, I do believe.
