Posted By: leon
IN case anyone missed it there is a new link at the top of the page for the "Vintage Baseball Card Forum". I just want to publicly thank Bill for doing it. Ya'll can still post card stuff here and everything else too. The other site is more strictly vintage baseball cards focused (and anything to do with vintage baseball cards). Last night I only had a little time to check the boards so I looked at this one and saw a few threads interesting and then clicked on the link above and read the card posts on the other one. Makes it much more easy to read what I want to.....regards all...and thanks again, Bill.....

Posted By: T206Collector
I just visited the PRE-WWII baseball card link and am amazed -- I thought I was already participating in the pre-WWII baseball card link. Why do we have two forums? Because one is specifically supposed to be card-related while the other includes cards and other stuff? I don't think I agree that there is a need for both. But in any event, since that's what we have, does anyone recommend one over the other, or do you all hit both sites equally often?

Posted By: leon
If you notice at the top of this board the name changed a few weeks ago to "Vintage Baseball Collecting" from "Vintage Baseball Card" forum. I, and some others, felt a need for a more narrowly focused board so the other one was developed. You don't have to go to the other site if you don't want to. No one is making you. You can still post about cards here however my preference has always been for a more focused card forum. I am NOT trying to implement my preferences but when this board started, about 6 years ago or so, it was almost all cards.....with the influx of other very nice and knowledgeable folks it didn't seem right to ask not to post about anything but vintage baseball cards, so viola. IN the long run it would be nice to have two boards that are linked and can get along together. Bill and I have been working on this and we'll see how it goes....there is no "war of the boards" going on (at least anymore ) regards

Posted By: leon
I certainly understand your point but now that's it's just one click to each board it shouldn't be too much of a pain. If I had my own way we would have cut out all of the off topic stuff on this board. That isn't fair at all though.... and as you know life is one big compromise. Hopefully this is a fair one to all interested parties. Bill and I are open to suggestions but I don't see how to make everyone happy as there are quite a few folks that don't care about O/T stuff and don't want to wade through the threads. Take care and thanks for your understanding....

Posted By: T206Collector
The biggest problem with the split, in my opinion, is that if I want to buy, sell or trade T206 cards -- my raison d'etre in the hobby -- I now have to look at and/or post to two boards to make sure that I am reaching both viewers. I applaud the central B/S/T board at the top of the Vintage Collecting website, but was concerned when I flipped over to the Vintage Card Board and saw "B/S/T March," with many of the same posts in both locations. It's just not efficient.

I will say that I love that vintage card collecting has become so popular, and I love the content of both boards. They are both expertly run and are required daily reading for me.

Posted By: leon
I agree on the B/S/T threads that they are duplicates. Let's continue both for a while and see how it goes. I have had numerous folks tell me that the new (really the old way) rotating monthly thread get's more views. I am not sure about that at this point. Again, let's give it a little while and if it doesn't make sense in the long run we'll change it. I am very cautious not to change too much too soon on either site (or ask Bill to). The only change to this (old) site is the link at the top. Bill and I are just trying to accomodate as many as possible. Thanks for the kind words and happy reading........regards

Posted By: jay behrens
Personally, I hate the monthly thread. The set up here is much better becuase you don't have to wade thru every post in the threda to find something that interests you. Instead, you can go to the area of your interest and find everything there and not have to go thru the Goudeys, caramels cards or other things that one might find annoying in their search.

Jay

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. Posted By: Glen V
Could everything be like the Buy/Sell/Trade thread here? Instead of individual posts, the main page could display topics such as:

Vintage Baseball Cards (pre-43)
All other cards
Grading Companies
Auctions
Fakes/Reprints/etc. on Ebay/other
Memorabilia
B/S/T 19th century
B/S/T T cards
B/S/T D,E,M cards
B/S/T 20-50's cards
B/S/T Memorabilia
B/S/T Everything Else

Posted By: robert a
Just wanted to give my opinion.
I REALLY enjoy the newer vintage baseball card board and appreciate a fresh start. It's fun to read through both and see if there's anything of interest, but this board seems to be going further and further away from my particular interests.

Thanks to Bill and Leon for your efforts.
robert a
Posted By: Jimmy Leiderman
I agree with Glen
Just take a look at this website, very organized (I don't like the color design or ad banners, but it's all customizable)

http://www.sportscardforum.com/

I'm sure there are many net54 regulars that have excellent computer skills to help develop a nice website and more than sure that $ wouldn't be a problem if a fixed moderator salary and webhosting costs are needed.

Posted By: jay behrens
Glen, this can be set up like the BST area and I have been suggesting this to Bill for awhile about setting it up that way. The game-used board is set up like that. This way, the cards only board can be brought in under this unbrella. The only thing that needs to be hashed out are what the pre-threaded area should be.

Jay

I've just reached Upper Lower Class. I am now officially a babe magnet for poor chicks.

Posted By: leon
I took a look at that other forum and it looks a little busy to me...but that's just me. We will continue to try to get better as we go but for the immediate time frame the 2 forums seems like a fairly happy compromise. Can't make everyone happy I am sure. As for a paid moderator I know I don't want to get into that and am pretty sure Bill doesn't either. This is really all about collecting and fun and when you get paid then people expect you to do something. As it is there is none of that nonsense Give us a week or so to think about the B/S/T. I do like this forum's better but the other has it's good points too....regards all
