Posted By: Cap
Very Interesting. Never thought about the older PSA holders.

PASJD is 100% correct. This card is badly o/c.

Does anyone know when Qualifers came into play?

Cap

Well, I quit my job so I could work alone,
Then I changed my name to Sherlock Holmes- Bob Dylan.

Posted By: Judge Dred
I don't know when they started doing qualifiers but even after the qualifiers were available you could submit the card and request NO QUALIFIERS. In this case PSA would lower the grade to a level that took the qualifier into consideration. For example, you could submit a card that was a 10 but lets say the back had a wax stain. PSA would look at the card and possibly give it a 7 because of the wax stain. Looking at how off center the Gretzky is I would have assumed that the grade would have been much lower than a 9 (if no qualifiers were requested) because that is REALLY REALLY off center. Chalk one up for one of the trained grading monkeys....

Posted By: Brian Koyama
Why is the flip blank? Doesn't PSA have some type of logo/hologram on it? What's up with the haziness of the top and sides of the holder?
I agree with HalleyGator, this hockey season is the best so far...

Posted By: PASJD
That is how PSA labels looked for the first couple of years. There are still some people who prefer them.

Posted By: Glenn
PSA's made some mistakes, but I can't believe this is their doing. Looks like somebody cracked the slab and switched out the label for one from a real PSA 9 (and probably sent that card back in and got another psa 9). Can't trust the population reports because of people like that.

Posted By: Bottom of the Ninth
Looks like this holder had been previously opened. It is frosted on the sides and is a sure sign that some a-hole took the original card out that was given the 9 and replaced it with this POS.

I don't know the seller who listed this auction and in no way am I implying that he is the one who resealed the holder with the badly off centered card.

If you see holders like this, avoid buying them at any level. Odds are you are not getting what the flip indicates.

Posted By: Anonymous
Speaking of switching cards in PSA holders, some young punk was shopping around a 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth (#144) in a PSA 3 holder at Ft. Washington on Friday.

He wanted $1,100 for it. I looked at the card and it was a reprint (Dot matrix in the print, glossy, etc). The holder was very lightly frosted, not to the extent of the Gretsky in question here. Someone did a good job.

Unfortunatley someone probably got burned and it will end up on EBAY in the future.

Posted By: Bottom of the Ninth
I have seen a #149 Ruth in a PSA holder that was resealed and the card was a reprint. It has been on ebay a few times.
