Posted By: bcornell
All-

A few days early for '05, it's a break with tradition for the B/S/T thread. I've been trying to find a better alternative for the monthly threads where many people re-enter previous info and latecomers find themselves far south in the thread.

Here it is: B/S/T Index

This an index with links to five separate forums: 19th c., T cards, E cards, Memorabilia & Photos, and "Everything Else". I considered splitting this into 3 threads for buy, sell, and trade, but since most posts are wants, these distinct categories get the nod.

The monthly thread is now retired and this thread will get bumped up as needed. There's a link to the new index from the top of the main VBC page. Existing N54 logins will work with of these new forums; everyone has to be logged in to post, as here.

This is a work in progress - feedback is welcome. As we say in the software business, "if it ain't broke, it doesn't have enough features".

Merry New Year, everyone.

Bill

Posted By: jay behrens
Bill, HUGE ommission. People that collect Goudeys and other 30s sets already feel a bit left out around here and now you don't have a place for them in the new index. You need another catagory for baseball cards that are not N, T or E so that people that collect Goudeys, PLay Balls, strip cards, exhibits, etc, have a place to post.

Jay

Wow upside down is Mom. Posted By: Bill Cornell
Jay, thanks for the suggestion about R cards - I've added another forum for 20's to 50's items.

This thread doesn't get bumped up by additions to the B/S/T index, unfortunately, which is why I added the link to the top of the main page here. The N54 guys have been promising an upgrade to the forum functionality for a while (sticky threads, etc.), but they're very late with it.

Bill

Posted By: leon
I just looked at all of the new B/S/T threads and I am the only friggin' one to respond to one? What gives? Does the emperor have no clothes on? I feel all alone, suddenly....oh well, back to the closet....(dang lysergic acid) -later

Posted By: DD
I would guess that similar to the old thread, that people will contact each other through their e-mail addresses. The ability to respond to each ad online is probably just a function of the software. It actually makes more sense not to respond online; you would need to constantly check to see if anyone saw your post.

Posted By: jay behrens
is there a way to get back to the main page of the index without hitting the back button? I could have sworn that there was a link the first day, but now I can't find it.

Jay

Wow upside down is Mom. Mom upside down is what dad wants to see.

Posted By: Brian Campf
I've listed for sale two rare sets.

One is my complete E97 set, 25 of which are black and white "proofs" with the other five (plus one duplicate) being from the regular color issue. Included amongst the B&W proofs are the key star cards in the set, Willie Keeler, Joe Kelley, Chief Meyers, and Cy Young. They are listed in the "caramel cards" section of the buy/sell/trade thread.

I am also selling a complete 16-card T200 Fatima set. They are listed in the "tobacco cards" section of the buy/sell/trade thread.

Posted By: ramram
So far, I get the feeling that many people outside of the core people, are not picking up on the new B/S/T thread since it sits separately atop the other threads. Also, what happens after listings get old or people's wants change? I know people can edit them but many may just let them rot. I used to always check it out when it popped up to the top of the other threads just to see the new entries. Now, you can't easily tell when anything has changed. It's kind of an afterthought to check it out. It also seems to have lost a lot of the interaction it used to get.

Just my intitial opinion,

Rob M.

Posted By: leon
Although post a hot item on there and quite a few folks will respond. I also had a question about "permanent" too. Maybe I just missed it but it seems permanent is a little too long......I am sure our fearless moderator will figure it out for us.....later

Posted By: john/z28jd
I thought it was a good idea because everyone can get their own thread in each category, and you can add and change whenever you want.If you edit your listing stays where it was but if you add a post it moves to the top.The only problem was that certain people were starting more than one thread in each category(not that its a problem per se,but it doesnt go along with what i just mentioned)

Ive been checking it more often but people who arent familiar might not find it as easy.I still think its better than the other way, more organized definitely

Maybe the link to it can be blinking or there can be a cartoon drawing of Leon dancing in a hula skirt next to it to draw more attention. Sorry i tried to be serious thru the whole post

Posted By: Bill Cornell
I'm okay with how the new B/S/T index is going, although it's only been a couple of weeks and this is still "in beta". We've had 70+ people post there, so it seems to me that it's not been overly hard to find. I wanted to get away from the monthly thread (partly because of my own forgetfulness about starting it) and I hope this will be a better solution.

One improvement will be to take down a post when the owner indicates that they're done with it. That, and we could give the posts a definite shelf life (maybe 3 months?).

What this has to do with Dave Bushing, I don't know...

Bill

Posted By: jay behrens
Bill, I like the new set up too, but what I think you see with people posting mutiple threads is a bit of gamesmanship, along with the bumping of one's own thread, so that it can stay at or near the top of the forum.

Jay

Wow upside down is Mom. Mom upside down is what dad wants to see.

Hope you didn't start something.

I have posted in the B/S/T area and had a bout the same amount of response as the old thread. Posted By: honus3415
....the "VBC Forum Buy/Sell/Trade Index" could develope into an even more valuable asset to it's community of vintage card collectors.

My one suggestion would be to please reconsider seperating the "wanted items" from the "sell and trade items". Some titles are a bit confusing to begin with, this change would allow interested parties to know directly where to look, while allowing for more space in titles for a more accurate, to the point description.

I also think an "expiration date" for the displaying of these posts is a good idea. As from my experience, most listings over two weeks old seem to waste my time and the posters time because of the outdated "freshness factor".

Thanks for a Great job Bill.....hoping you won't be following feebay's lead and raising VBC fees any time soon.

Man, I used to hassle my Dad about not reading or following the directions, and now I'm getting worse than he is..... Work, Kids, and EBAY will fry your brain. I'll see If I can find the NEW B/S/T thread. Be well Brian

PS Are you done with your T206 set?????
