Favorite cards

Posted By: <b>jay behrens</b><p>In doing the BBCHOF I find it kind of sad that the vast majority of nominations for "best" cards are of HOFers. I realize that that HOFer cards get more exposure, but I'm sorry, I think the t206 Cobb is worst Cobb card in the set and actually find most HOFer cards in any given set pretty nondescript. If they didn't have the name Ruth, Cobb, etc on them, no one would care.<br /><br />I find cards like Moxie Hengle's dead man pose, The Bagman and other cards of unusual poses far more intersting than any 33G Ruth or most other HOFer cards. <br /><br />I'm assuming the lack of nominations for "common" cards is that most people aren't familiar with them. For me, HOFers are interesting to see, but I want to see the whole set. <br /><br />Jay<br><br>Wow upside down is Mom. Mom upside down is what dad wants to see.

Posted By: <b>john/z28jd</b><p>I think part of the reason people pick a certain card is because of the player but it has to be a cool card of the player.I dont like portrait cards,so i wont nominate one no matter who it is but if its an in action or offbeat pose then it doesnt matter who it is BUT if its a hall of famer it makes it that much better than a common. The e90 Rebel Oakes card is still my favorite but i think if it were the same exact pose/background but Ty Cobb instead of Oakes then it would be one of the more popular vintage cards around

Posted By: <b>Julie</b><p>if it were the same pose of a HOFer, it would be even better. There's a wonderful T222 of a guy 2 feet off the ground--but what if it were Cobb, two feet off the ground? (Guess the Oaks that John mentioned made me think of it).<br /><br />One problem I have, which others may share, is that, unless I'm building a set, I don't have the DOUGH to buy cards of every Tom, Dick and Harry. I'm happy just getting the HOFers and other favorites. <br /><br />As for HOFers being dull--why should they be? I think they tend to have more interesting faces and more interesting motions than common players. As for Cobb in the T206 set--I guess nobody had quite caught on yet to what a prick he was. The nasty Cobb shows in the E-145, the T227.<br /><br />But they don't all have a great sense of humor, and I really appreciated that in some of the cards nominated this time.<br /><br />

Posted By: <b>Chris</b><p>Jay, I am right there with you. I was actually going to ask what the criteria was because it seems like only valuable cards were nominated. I will throw two cards at you that have always been two of my favorites. I love the AL bridwell T206 card that shows him in a nice NY sweater that looks like it would keep an eskimo warm, and also I love the pose and angle on the T206 Jack Dunn. Plus Dunn was the guy credited with discovering and signing Babe Ruth.
