Posted By: tbob
I scored the highest graded E98 Vaughn (scarce)known, a nice E98 Davis which was helped by a horrific scan which probably scared buyers away and concealed the fact it was creaseless and clean, 2 dozen T210 Old Mills in nice, creaseless condition from ebay but mostly off-line, an M116 Sporting Life Cobb in exmt which may or may not grade but is a beauty, a PX7 Domino Disc Cicotte in PSA 7 and several Doors 45s from the 60's with picture sleeves from other countries which are not only rare but feature artwork never used in this country.
My regrets include not bidding higher on the blue M116 Cobb (I was at a basketball game and didn't set a high enough snipe) and letting Brockelman sneak in and score a really nice Series 8 T210 Old Mill at the last second on a card I had already counted as a winner.
Still, a nice week and there's still 2 days to go...

I also picked up a Hanna batrite Slaughter style bat at the same auction for a buck.

Two weeks back I picked up a framed panoramic photo of the 1929 A's and a bunch of 1940-50's Lincoln A's and Lincoln Chiefs programs and photos.

Dan

Posted By: Bryan
I did manage to pick up a few for my e96 and e93 sets. The big one - since I was able get the lost money back for the OJ Anson I was suppose to get - was a e95 Honus Wagner. Those sets need all the help that they can get so picking up a big one for me is a huge pat on my back. Good job Bryan, yeah me!

Posted By: Bottom of the Ninth
Leon,

I bid that Mastro lot up just for this card. I think it is the coolest looking card.

Scott,

I did see the thread and referred back to it when I finally noticed the card on ebay. Sadly for Leon, I found the card with less than 30 minutes to go in the auction.

Happy holidays guys!

Greg

Edit:

Wes,

I did not win the one in Mastro. That one was a little nicer than the one I have.

Posted By: tbob
Got a call from a guy who said his bookie owed him a bunch of money (that in itself is a new one). The bookie paid him half the money and then told him he'd have to take a box of old cards he got 20 years ago from a guy he knew in Mississippi. Ye olde shoebox. Well to make a long story short, the caller said he then had them for 10 years himself and heard I collected tobacco cards and thought I might be interested in them. Supposedly there are over 300 cards including 90 T213s, 100 T206s, 50 T205s, and the rest caramel and other assorted cards. He thought the caramel cards were E92s but he mentioned Mordecai Brown who doesn't appear in the E92 set. I am praying they are E93s, E96s and E98s, but you never know.
Things like this never happen to anyone but Leon so I was happy at a shot at them. May end up being nothing, but you never know

I'm sure many of you recognize the Lowdermilk name from his T207 card.

Superb!

I've seen this piece offered once in the last four years when a dealer at the 2003 National in AC tried selling the Halper example for $3,500. I think I got a great deal and am extremely happy with its condition.

I also just got a complete run of "Gridiron Greats" (supposedly vintage football collectings answer to VCBC) to provide some reading material over the holiday break.
