Posted By: DD
I'm sure we all have a list of cards that are tougher than the T-206 Wagner. Here are mine:

1932 US Caramel Lindy Lindstrom
T-206 Doyle Nat'l variation
1948 Leaf Boxing Rocky Graziano
Any 1951 Topps Ringside Boxing with a puzzle back

What are your lists for cards tougher than the Wagner?

Posted By: Andy Baran
There are MANY, MANY, MANY cards that are more scarce than the T206 Wagner. In fact, I would suggest that there are hundreds of cards that are more scarce.

Hal,

There are more than 11 Peck & Snyder Red Stockings known. The number is closer to 25, and is probably slightly more than that.

There are also more than 4 E107 Cy Young's. I know where at least 6 of them are.

Posted By: runscott
if each person on this board had the goal to own a single card that is rarer than the t206 Wagner, I think we could each do it without breaking the bank. I have owned several, but had to purchase them with food stamps. It's a scam: I go in the 7-11 with a "large" stamp and buy twinkies (which is totally legitimate). I then use the change to buy cigarettes, beer (lots of beer) and lotto tickets. I stuff my lotto winnings in the back closet of my trailer until I have enough to buy a card. Tough life, but I'm happy and my dog eats premium food.

Posted By: Marc S.
Perhaps some might consider it simply an overprint - but it is one of the few issues where a caramel card was overprinted and became a bread issue. I don't know of any hoardes of the cards - and I would almost suggest that there are less total Niagra Baking cards out there (of all players) than there are T-206 Wagner cards.

Posted By: brian p
I would hazard to state that somewhere between 10 to 15 percent of the pre-Goudey era cards that were issued are scarcer than the T206 Wagner. That might seem impossible, but take a look at the incredible array of pre-1930 issues listed in the SCD Catalog and then ponder when the last time cards from some of these sets were offered for sale. Not just sets of cards, but individual cards. Even such a lowly strip card as that ugly W9316 that I pointed out in a previous thread is not going to have 50+ floating out there. To collect more than 3500 of the nearly 4000 Zeenuts issued is an incredibly rare feat. Just a couple of examples, but there are countless examples out there.

Just be glad there is a T206 Honus to gobble up all the limelight.

Brian

Does the board generally agree that they are both tougher than Wagner? Disagree? How about a list of Wagners tougher than Wagner in order of difficulty?

If you include all the back variations for related sets (for example all the M101-4's with their myriad of issuers), you probably come closer to 30% of Wagner's cards are less common than his T206. And that's not including all the postcards, pins, felt thingees, etc.

Brian

Posted By: jay behrens
Joe, not sure how much you know about comic collecting, but the Cover is everything when it comes to comics. A comic without a cover is almost worthless, but a cover by itself has some value. In this case, with such a rare item, The persons with the insides are not about sell it for less than half the value that comic would have once it is put with a cover. The person with cover refuses to pay that price, thus a Mexican Standoff until these items are in the hands of new owners.

Personally, I never understood why the cover should carry the premium. I'd rather have insides with the story.

Jay

I saw weird stuff in that place last night. Weird, strange, sick, twisted, eerie, godless, evil stuff. And I want in.

Posted By: John Spencer
I feel there may be 2 tobacco cards rarer than the T206 Honus: the T5 Pinkerton Cabinet (believe it or not I have one)and the T216 with either a Mino or Virginia Brights reverse. Also I suspect that the Texas Tommy is rarer as is the Mother's Bread Wagner. Sadly, I don't have any of these jewels.
