Posted By: PASJD
Rather than continue the Cobb thread, I will pick up at the end and note my favorites. Speaking of a popular restaurant: "Nobody goes there any more, it's too crowded." Asked whether he wanted his pizza cut into six or eight slices: "Better make it 8, I'm hungry." And my all time favorite, "I never said half the things I said." And just to make this on topic, has there ever been a finer Berra card than the 53 Bowman Color?

Posted By: PASJD
There are a lot of Berraisms, but a few non-Yogi quotes that come to mind about baseball. Anonymous batter after taking three strikes against Walter Johnson complains to umpire, "The third one sounded low." Reggie Jackson on Tom Seaver: "He's so good blind people come to the park just to hear him pitch." Bill Lee, asked to comment on his impressions of the 1976 World Series after game two: "Tied."

Posted By: hankron
When a reporter asked what he thought of the Buccaneer’s execution following a loss-- "I think it's a good idea."

"We didn't tackle well today but we made up for it by not blocking."

On 41 year old kicker, Jan Stenerud-- "He may be the only kicker to kick and collect social security at the same time."

"Kickers are like horse manure. They're all over the place."

On this significance of experience-- "If you have everyone back from a team that lost 10 games, experience isn't too important."

"If a contest had 97 prizes, the 98th would be a trip to Green Bay."

"Statistics and records are baseball talk. They keep records like most times sliding into second base on a Tuesday."

"The only problem with doing the impossible is that everybody expects you to duplicate the impossible."

Posted By: Mark Evans
I agree that the '53 color Bowman is Berra's best card. Same as to Whitey Ford. Mantle's is nice too, but I grew up a few years later so my earliest images of Mick are his '57 and '58 Topps cards. Still my favorites and can't choose between the two.

Posted By: Gilbert Maines
How could Berra be anything other than a great orator? He studied under the perfesser for years! You remember him?

"All right, everybody line up alphabetically, according to height" & "I couldn't have done it without my players" or "Good pitching will always stop good hitting; and visa-versa".
