Posted By: Shawn Chambers
Hi guys,

A buddy of mine has a Federal League Official Rules type booklet. It is blue and the cover depicts a federal league baseball and box. I want to make him a fair offer for it, but have no real idea of its value. It is about 6" x 3" or thereabouts and probably 20 some odd pages.

I know this isn't much to go on, but I'm doing this from memory and he has to relocate it. He showed it to me last year, but wasn't ready to get rid of it at the time.

Any help is appreciated.

Shawn

Posted By: Shawn Chambers

I appreciate the Bruces opinion, but agree that less verbosity and more sharing of images once in a while would be appreciated, too. I'm sure many on this board would enjoy seeing some of their Federal League items. I've read about them in several of the Bruces posts.

I'm not expecting the Bruces to change their ways. I've been on the board a couple years and read enough posts to know that sharing images is something that just isn't gonna happen.

I salute the Bruces on their fine Federal League collection. This will be my first piece.

You can bet, if I get this rule book...I will post it proudly!!

And David thanks for sharing all the drool inducing pics from your collection!

Best,

Shawn

Posted By: Mark L
In fairness to Bruce Dorskind, I recall that he once posted a link to some neat Federal League programs and other memorabelia that he indicated came from his collection. I think that this is the post and the link

http://www.network54.com/Forum/567138/message/1221246513/Sneak+Preview

Posted By: Rob D.
I'm sure Bruce is accurate with his price estimate.

I'm equally sure that were the rules pamphlet added to his collection, the estimated value instantly would triple.

(Begin countdown to when Bruce posts that the pamphlet doesn't meet his strict criteria.)

Posted By: Jon Canfield
Guys - I interpreted Bruce's post in a totally different way. A question was asked about federal league memorabilia and its relative value. Bruce answered the question that was asked and also justified the basis for his valuation, specifically that he is an avid collector of federal league memorabilia (and has been for 28 years) and has reason to know the value.

If I was asking a valuation question, I would certainly appreciate someone responding who has a background to know the value.

I've been around these boards for a long time so i know that Bruce ruffles feathers of some. However, I do think everyone is always quick to jump on him... way too quick.

Just my opinion.

======================================
For the premier online souce of information on baseball-related cigarette packs, visit http://www.baseballandtobacco.com

Posted By: Bruce Dorskind
Whilst it is clear that Rob is obsessed with us and our want list and our collection,
it is neither our intent or interest to under-estimate the value of am item that we don't own.

Our suggested value for the rules book was formulated on the value we have seen for
other rule books. In fact, we acquired a Players League (1890) rule book about seven years
ago for $450. Certainly a Federal League rule book would be considered less valuable
than a Players League rule book

For those interested in the Federal League, we suggest you acquire a copy of the new
Robert Peyton Wiggins book- The Federal League of Baseball Clubs.
There are a number of stunning photos in the book that we have never seen

The book can be obtained from McFarland and Company - Jefferson, North Carolina.

The link to their web site ishttp://www.mcfarlandpub.com

Bruce Dorskind
America's Toughest Want List

Posted By: Shawn Chambers
Okay, so my memory was a little off...

Anyway the booklet measures 6x4" and was put out by Victor Sporting Goods who supplied the official baseballs. Here is a scan:

Any new opinions?

Thanks!
