It's a 20 page magazine, plus 4 cover pages (inside and out, front and back.) I've shown it before, but here's a sample. Posted By: Gary CieradkowskiI have been interested in the Negro Leagues since the early '80's when my Grandfather used to tell me about seeing the Newark Eagles play. Going to college in Baltimore in the late 80's I got to meet many of the old players and do portraits of them, Leon Day being the best of the bunch. I got to spend quite a few afternoons in his house talking baseball with him. As far as memorabilia, I have copies of the 1945 and 46 Negro League Yearbooks. I have been trying to get some scorecards, but they are rarer than hen's teeth! Actually I'd just like to have good scans of them, owning the originals don't matter anymore, I'd just like them for research purposes. I am particularly interested in the Baltimore Elite Giants and the Newark Eagles and was writing a history of the Elites but someone else beat me to it! I compiled the stats from almost the entire seasons of 1939-43 for the team going through old newspapers and although it may sound boring, it was a whole lot of fun and rewarding. The Negro Leagues and their collectibles are a great subject and I hope to see some cool stuff from the members!

Posted By: CS BolayNice programs/mags, those are great! Used to write to surviving Negro Leaguers, have a small collection of 3x5s. Got Buck and Ted Radcliffe at shows. Don't have the money to go any further than that. Maybe someday I'll get run over or win the lottery and buy out Wayne Stivers...

With some help from Wayne Stivers, I've identified all but one players. I showed this photo to a former Negro League player from Cincinnati last year at The National. He was able to identify the building and the street. Very cool... Posted By: ramramI've got some old scorebooks that include games played by lower level white teams against some of the Negro League (and pre-Negro League) teams. They include the 1895 Cuban Giants (with Frank Grant), the 1905 Cuban Giants and the 1928 Brooklyn Royals. I've also got a scorebook that contains Satchel Paige's first Major League win. Also have this c. late 1890's cabinet card of an unknown Cuban X-Giant's player. Interesting to note that the photographer's backdrops consist of what look like shower curtains in what was surely a very low-rent studio (no photographer's imprint on the back). Posted By: JeffI don't have very much, but I do have signed 1970s baseball cards of Hilton Smith and William Foster (Spence says its the only known baseball card signed by Willie Foster), and I have a few ticket stubs, too, and some other autographs here and there.... I WISH there was more and more and more to get, but its very scarce <img src="/images/sad.gif" height="14" width="14" alt="sad.gif">

I posted this for a friend and since doing so, looked up a little more about them - They were in the Southeastern League with Mobile, Selma, Jackson, Montgomery, etc. It looks like most teams had affiliations with big-league clubs. Then they became part of the South Atlantic League. When the Tars became the Braves in 53' it looks like Hank Aaron was on the roster.

Posted By: Brock G.Andy, On a side note, the stadium the Tars, as well as the Negro-league Red Caps, played at is still in use. Jacksonville doesn't really have a strong historic baseball tradition but old Durkee Field (now JP Small) is quite a place. I played numerous High school games at the field and it can really take you back in time.
