Posted By: Dan Bretta
Are you sure it's a postcard set? It looks like the 1963 Scheible Press Rochester Red Wings Set which are postcard sized.

Posted By: Chris Counts
Thanks, Dan

I guess they technically aren't postcards. There's nothing but a biography on the back. The photo is credited to Scheible. I did searches for the set on eBay and Google, but nothing comes up. Are they tough to find?

Posted By: Dan Bretta
They are listed in the SCD with prices around $20-30 per card, but I don't know how difficult they are.

Posted By: Chris Counts
Thanks again, Dan

I picked it up yesterday from a guy named Andy at Mark McRae's show in San Leandro, California. Your name actually came up in the conversation. Andy had some amazing oddball stuff, and at one point he tried to interest me in a 1956 Lincoln Chiefs Dick Stuart, a card you have posted here on several occassions ...

Posted By: Dan Bretta
That would be Andy Bowers (he posts here occasionally). His Stuart items come directly from his estate. How much was he asking for the Lincoln card?

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Yep, they are very scarce...I own three, and I believe Andy had 2-3 of them and he may have sold one to another Net54 board member...there are two more for sure, one is pictured in the SCD since 2006, and a Seattle collector also has one. I believe they were given out on Dick Stuart Night in Lincoln in 1956 in the midst of his 66 homer season. I found all three of mine locally.

Posted By: Mark B
First regarding the Scheible Press cards I have found them to be pretty scarce. They are among the most beautiful in my collection. As Dan says $20 to $30 for the commons is probably pretty close except that the Easter, which took me a long time to find, commands much more. Closer to $100.

To clear up the Stuart pondering we picked up four of the cards from his estate and still have two. One went to Dan and one to Glen Van Aken - both in trades. The remaining duplicate copy will likely be housed here until a trade comes along. Comparing notes we know of no more than 7 right now but of course there have to be more out there.

As for the Mark Macrae show last Saturday, although I didn't make it, Andy tells me that trading is possibly making a comeback which is exciting if in fact it is true. He made a couple of trades there and is talking trade with a couple of other attendees via email.

Mark's show is always enjoyable and offers a wide variety of collectibles.

Mark

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Mark, I never got one of the Stuart cards from you or Andy so you may actually still have one more than you think. I own three of them and two came from the estate of the fella that won the contest to name the Lincoln club and one other came from a Lincoln seller on ebay. I knew that you had sold one to a Net54er...I just couldn't remember who it was, but now that you mention Glen V. that's who I was thinking of.

Posted By: Chris Counts
Mark,

Thanks for the info on the Scheible Press cards ... In regards to trading, I went to Mark's show with the goal doing more trading than buying, and I actually succeeded. Andy and Mark, in fact, were two of the guys I traded with ...
