Posted By: Bert Wright
Great photos, Dan. I had bid on those but am glad they went to you. I am a teacher and for years I would take students over to interview him as he lived here in Scottsbluff. His stories were amazing from playing in Jackie Robinson's first game, to Babe Ruth summoning him to his hotel room in Omaha, to Honus Wagner being one of his coaches, to Whitlow Wyatt being the toughest pitcher for him to hit. We became good friends and he gave me some items and I have a nice little collection of his stuff. He actually had a very good career. Johnny was also Mickey Mantle's first roommate with the Yanks. Good to see him brought to life in the forum!

Posted By: Dan Bretta
Thanks Bert. I didn't know he was roommates with Mantle. That gives him something else in common with Bob Cerv....you must have some amazing stories to tell about him. I'm on the lookout for a 1936 Hastings High School yearbook if you ever come across one.
